New York Mets top pitching prospect Zack Wheeler recorded his first victory since being promoted to Triple-A Buffalo yesterday as his journey through the clubs minor leagues can offer Mets fans something to look forward to.  Wheeler shut down the Twins Triple-A affiliate, allowing just three hits, while fanning seven, over seven scoreless frames:

As a result, Wheeler earned a much-deserved inaugural Triple-A win, improving his record to 1-2 as a member of the Herd. Wheeler, who was acquired last July in the deal that sent Carlos Beltran to the Giants, told reporters he is focused on doing whatever is needed to take that next step in his development,  according to Ashley Marshall of MiLB.com: “Assistant GM J.P. Ricciardi came down, and I asked him what I needed to do to take the next step. He said I needed to get my innings in here at Triple-A and learn the mental side. …I’ve been asking [catcher] Mike Nickeas to ask me things like why I’m throwing certain pitches in certain counts. I’ve been picking his brain and it’s been working out. He went to Georgia Tech and he’s been in the big leagues, so he’s seen a lot of different pitchers. He’s helped me out with my responses, asking me why I shook him off or why I threw that pitch or what I was thinking.” Wheeler was 10-6 with a 3.26 ERA in 19 games with Double-A Binghamton prior to his promotion.  And over his three starts with the Bison, the 22-year-old right-hander is 1-2 with 26 strikeouts and a 3.54 ERA:
