Lefty-righty offensive shuffle backfires on Rangers
Mitch Moreland was the Texas Rangers' offense on Thursday. And at the moment when the team most needed its offense, Moreland was nowhere to be found. In a 5-4, 10-inning loss to the Oakland A's, manager Ron Washington elected to pinch-hit for left-handed-hitting Moreland in the seventh when Oakland brought in left-handed reliever Jordan Norberto with a runner on second...

Washington's choice backfires in Rangers loss
ARLINGTON, Texas -- Rangers manager Ron Washington says he doesn't play the odds.
Yet Washington definitely was playing the percentages when he pinch-hit for Mitch Moreland in the seventh inning of Thursday's 5-4 loss to the A's.
The left-handed Moreland had hit two home runs in his last two plate appearances, a 368-foot shot the opposite field in the fourth and a...

Update: Turns Out Crybaby Rangers Fan Has Pretty Good Parents
Yesterday, we had a pretty great discussion about the young Texas Rangers fan who cried when Mitch Moreland tossed a ball into the stands and it was caught by a couple that spent the next 10 minutes taking photos of each other with that ball. Now we actually have a couple updates to that story – of which the moral was kids need to learn early that nobody likes a crybaby – that...

Moreland comes alive for the first time
ARLINGTON, Texas One sure way to keep from hitting the ball right at people is to hit it over the fence. That's the tactic the Rangers first baseman Mitch Moreland took Wednesday night to break out of a slump.
Moreland sent a blast 410 feet over the right field wall in the sixth inning of a 7-3 win over the Yankees. The homer was his second hit of the night to break out of...

Q&A: Mitch Moreland: Future Reliever?
A number of big-league position players were once pitchers. Blessed with strong arms, they excelled on the mound, as well as at the plate, against amateur competition. Only a few would be able to return to the hill with any chance of success against professional hitters. Rangers first baseman Mitch Moreland is among them.
In high school, Moreland logged a record of 25-2 and in his...

Mitch Moreland and His Atypical Value for the Texas Rangers
There is nothing wrong with Mitch Moreland. There also isn’t a lot that is exceptionally right about Mitch Moreland. The Texas Rangers first baseman may very well be the best Opening Day first baseman the Rangers have had since Mark Teixeira last occupied the position in 2007. That fact alone does not necessarily make Moreland a good first baseman. The Rangers have had some bad...

Rangers' Moreland has right wrist surgery
An already cloudy first base picture for the Texas Rangers got a little murkier Wednesday after Mitch Moreland underwent surgery on his right wrist.
Moreland had the pisiform bone removed from his wrist by Dr. Tom Graham. The pisiform bone is a small pre-shaped bone located at the base of the wrist.
The expected recovery time from the procedure is 8 to 12 weeks, which means Moreland...
