Ross Wolf released by Rangers so that he can pitch in Korea

The Rangers announced yesterday that right-hander Ross Wolf was granted his release so that he could pursue an opportunity with the SK Wyverns in the Korean Baseball Organization. Ross, 31, posted a 4.15 ERA and 21/15 K/BB ratio in 47 2/3 innings over three starts and 19 relief appearances with Texas this past season. He has had previous stints in the majors with the Athletics and Marlins.

Rangers swap Ortiz for Wolf for added LHP

ARLINGTON, Texas The need for a left-handed pitcher prompted the Texas Rangers to recall Joseph Ortiz from Triple A Round Rock Friday. To make room for Ortiz the Rangers sent Ross Wolf to Triple A. The club will recall Wolf after Round Rock ends its season Monday. The Minnesota Twins have five left-handed hitters and started four against the Rangers Friday. Ortiz was 2-1 with...

Rangers undecided on Thursday starter

ARLINGTON, Texas The Texas Rangers haven't decided on their starter for their series finale against New York Thursday. If the club remained on schedule, right-hander Ross Wolf would get the call. But Wolf allowed seven runs in three innings Saturday in just his third start for the club. "He (Wolf) is in the mix of course," Rangers manager Ron Washington said. If...

Orioles feast on Ross Wolf in Rangers loss

ARLINGTON, Texas Ross Wolf didn't do anything Saturday night to quiet those who believe the Texas Rangers desperately need to add a starting pitcher before the July 31 trade deadline. The minor leaguer turned middle man turned rotation member retired just six batters as Baltimore jumped out to a 7-0 lead on its way to a 7-4 victory over Texas. The Rangers, who are still actively...

Rangers’ deal with Cubs for Matt Garza goes on hold

Ross Wolf will be the Texas Rangers’ starting pitcher Saturday night at Rangers Ballpark, technically in place of the infirmed Nick Tepesch. But Wolf will also be starting in place of Matt Garza, whom the Rangers had hoped to acquire from the Chicago Cubs so that he could start against the Baltimore Orioles. A proposed deal, though, remained on hold Friday night as the Rangers...

Wolf impressive in Rangers' 3-1 loss to Orioles

Ross Wolf did his part, limiting the Baltimore Orioles to just three hits over six innings. Unfortunately for the Texas Rangers, their offense couldn't back up his noteworthy performance in a 3-1 defeat Thursday night. Texas couldn't have asked for much more from Wolf, who got the start after Yu Darvish was placed on the 15-day disabled list with an upper back strain. Wolf...

Wolf earns first major league win, Rangers avoid sweep

The Rangers were determined not to get shut out in today’s game.  They brought the bats out early.  And then put them away … but at least they got them out. All of Texas’ runs came in the 1st inning today, courtesy of David Murphy two-run home run and an Adrian Beltre solo shot.  The early runs were good to see, and I’m sure no one appreciated them more than Ross Wolf...

Texas Rangers Recall Ross Wolf, Option Cory Burns

The Texas Rangers changed up their bullpen some on Wednesday, purchasing the contract of right-handed reliever Ross Wolf from Triple-A Round Rock while optioning right-handed reliever Cory Burns to the same minor league affiliate. Don’t look for Wolf to make a huge impact, and could be shuffled to the minoors quickly. But he has been very solid in the minors this year so if he...
