TONY SANCHEZ RUMORS & GOSSIP

Bar news: Tony Sanchez and Budweiser

Both these news bits are a day or so old, but since things continue to be slow I figured I’d put them up here anyway in case you missed them. Tony Sanchez broke his jaw in a bar fight earlier this offseason. He is apparently fully healthy now, but suffered an enormous setback in his development over the past two years mainly because of a broken jaw in 2010. Another round can...

Tony Sanchez broke jaw during offseason

Here’s the link to the story by Rob Biertempfel of the Trib. I am not quite sure how I feel about this news. Obviously it’s not good when your former first round pick, who is coming off a disappointing season because of breaking his jaw in 2010 goes and breaks his jaw again. And it also isn’t good when the reason for breaking his jaw this time is because he ended...

Tony Sanchez Broke Jaw Over Off-Season

Rob Biertempfel of the Trib is reporting that Pittsburgh Pirates catching prospect Tony Sanchez broke his jaw over the off-season in a bar room fight. Biertempfel reports that the incident happened during the Florida Instructional Leagues. Sanchez had his jaw broken in 2010 after being hit with a pitch in Bradenton. That required his jaw to be wired shut for three months. This injury...

Tony Sanchez broke his jaw again last fall

Rob Biertempfel is reporting at the Trib this morning that Tony Sanchez broke his bar in a jaw fight about three months ago while playing in the Florida Instructional League. He also notes that Sanchez appeared fine at minicamp three weeks ago. The math in this case would appear to indicate that Sanchez's broken jaw is less serious this time around, though being allowed to attend...

Tony Sanchez Has A Broken Jaw

Ridiculous news from the Tribune-Review this morning, Pirates prospect Tony Sanchez sustained a broken jaw earlier in the offseason in a "scuffle". There isn't much more information available right now, but it sounds like Sanchez just got in a childish fight and got punched in the jaw. This will be the second time he has broken his jaw, and the first time set him back...

Report: Pittsburgh Pirates First-Round Pick Broke Jaw (Again) in Bar Fight

In an interesting piece of news that was uncovered today by Rob Biertempfel at the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, Pittsburgh Pirates top catching prospect Tony Sanchez broke his jaw about three months ago in a bar fight while participating in the Florida Instructional League. It was the third time Sanchez’s jaw was broken in two years. The catcher missed most of the 2010 season...

Pirates Add Six Non-Roster Invitees to Spring Training

The Pittsburgh Pirates have announced that they’ve added six non-roster invitees to Spring Training. The new additions are Gerrit Cole, Michael Crotta, Ramon Cabrera, Eric Fryer, Tony Sanchez, and Robbie Grossman. Of the group, only Crotta and Fryer have major league experience, both spending time in the majors in 2011. I don’t see any of the group making the majors out...

The Forgettable Eric Fryer

Myself and RumBunter have been doing a lot of writing about Pirates catching prospect Tony Sanchez today. I wrote this post about how I thought Sanchez holds one of the five biggest keys to the future success of the Pittsburgh Pirates. The main reason for that is because of the lack of depth the Pirates have at the catching position. After Sanchez, there's really nothing in...
