LAKELAND, Fla. -- Speed can kill and the Tigers want to use it to their advantage this year.
With players like Miguel Cabrera and Victor Martinez, the Tigers will never be considered a super-fast team.
But they're not slow either.
Last season they were seventh in the league in stolen bases with 106. Top-ranked Kansas City had 153.
That's a far cry from 2013 when they were dead last...
LAKELAND, Fla. (AP) The Detroit Tigers had mild expectations for J.D. Martinez when they called him up from the minors early last season.
''We knew he had power,'' manager Brad Ausmus said. ''We were initially hoping he could just be a power threat off the bench.''
Martinez quickly became a lot more. After being signed by Detroit to a minor league deal in March, he eventually earned...

The Tigers will have roughly half of their spring training games on some sort of television broadcast and pretty much all of them on the radio.
This extensive broadcast schedule should give us fans a pretty good idea what the Tigers might look like without Miguel Cabrera and Victor Martinez at the beginning of the year. It should also give us a look at the shiny new toys that General...
When you shell out a four year contract worth $68M to a 36-year old player with a fairly significant injury history, you start praying immediately. Last week’s news that Victor Martinez was going to require knee surgery shook the Detroit Tigers to the core. Martinez is the likely cleanup hitter for a revamped offense that is expected to do big things and, well, he and bad knees...

It sounded bad and looked even worse for the Detroit Tigers when it was announced last Thursday that their star designated hitter Victor Martinez had suffered a torn medial meniscus in his left knee.

The Tigers received great news Tuesday as it was learned that Victor Martinez’s surgery to repair a meniscus was successful and that the team is expecting him to resume baseball activities in 4-6 weeks. This means the DH would be on track for opening day.
Here’s a statement from Tigers GM Dave Dombrowski:

It seems like déjà vu for the Detroit Tigers and designated hitter Victor Martinez.
On Thursday, it was reported that Martinez had suffered a torn medial meniscus in his left need and would need to have surgery to repair it.
Dr. James Andrews is scheduled to perform the operation and there has been no timetable set for Martinez’s return.
Now while this isn’t as severe as his...

In order to get back to the World Series next year, the Detroit Tigers have some offseason issues that need to be addressed and some questions that need to be answered.
1. Will Max Scherzer come back?
To me this seems like a no-brainer, but anything can happen. Pitcher Max Scherzer was the Tigers best pitcher in 2014 as he led the team with 18 wins, 252 strikeouts, and an ERA of...
Remember when the Detroit Tigers were riding high and had an 11 game road winning streak? Neither do I.
Remember when the Tigers had swept the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park for the first time since 1983? Neither do I.
Ok well, maybe I do. However it seems like it was a thing of the past. What I do remember was the night they flew into Cleveland late after their sweep of the Red Sox...
