UFC Middleweight Alan Belcher

When Vitor Belfort shunned a UFC 153 scrap against Alan Belcher (Pictured) to challenge light heavyweight king Jon Jones for his crown at UFC 152, Octagon officials were forced to locate a replacement to meet “The Talent” in the October 13th event.

Well, according to Belcher, no such move will be necessary because he’ll be rehabbing a back injury. However, the 28-year-old already has an opponent in mind when he comes off the IR.

“Everyone’s asking if I am mad at @Ufc @jonnybones @vitorbelfort answer is no. this is a blessing in disguise. I have a spinal fracture,” Belcher tweeted. “With that being said and with much respect I’d like @Chrisweidmanufc or another top 5 on my return in November. Thx for all the support.”

Belcher’s injury follows a long line of wounds that’s forced the middleweight to ride the pine. He collected his fourth consecutive win by posting a TKO victory over Rousimar Palhares in May. Although, Belcher broke his right hand on Palhares’ face during the assault and has been riding the pine ever since.

Prior to that, Belcher underwent emergency eye surgery that kept him on the sidelines for 16 months.

Belcher owns a respectable 18-6 professional mixed martial arts record.

Vitor Belfort Facing Long Odds Against Jon Jones at UFC 152

Octagon officials might be thrilled Vitor Belfort manned up to face light heavyweight king Jon Jones (Pictured) at UFC 152, but the Gambling Gods profess “The Phenom” shouldn’t even bother showing up on September 22nd. If you thought Jones was a significant favorite to dispose of Dan Henderson at UFC 151 as a 7.5-to-1 odds-on favorite, “Bones” is pegged as more than a...

‘UFC 152: Jones vs. Belfort’ Fight Card Updated

To say UFC 152 has taken some twists and turns would be an understatement. Following Thursday’s bombshell that UFC 151 was no longer in existence, the Octagon’s following pay-per-view show received quite the boost. Instead of the flyweight finals between Joseph Benavidez and Demetrious Johnson headlining the September 22nd festivities, light heavyweight king Jon Jones (Pictured...

Lyoto Machida Declines UFC 152 Fight Against Jon Jones, Vitor Belfort Steps In

Thursday will officially go down as the day of declines. Less than 12 hours after announcing light heavyweight king Jon Jones turned down a last-minute scrap against Chael Sonnen to salvage UFC 151, Lyoto Machida has now passed on the opportunity to headline UFC 152 opposite Jones. MMAFighting confirmed with UFC president Dana White late Thursday night former 205-pound champ Vitor...

Change of Plans: Machida turns down Jones fight, Belfort steps up

photo via - espn There have been a lot of crazy days and nights when it comes to the world of UFC news. I'm trying to think of one crazier than this. When we woke up yesterday morning Jon Jones was still fighting Dan Henderson, as far as we knew, at UFC 151 in Las Vegas a week from Saturday. What we didn't learn until around 2 p.m. eastern time was that Henderson had...

Jon Jones now faces Vitor Belfort at UFC 152, Lyoto Machida declined title shot

Another unreal twist following the cancellation of UFC 151 on Thursday… Let’s recap… Dan Henderson partially tears his MCL and is out of his title fight against Jon Jones at UFC 151 on September 1st. Chael Sonnen is chosen to replace Henderson against Jones. Sonnen would be taking the fight on 8 days notice. Jones refuses to take the fight against Sonnen. UFC president Dana...
