In the co-main event of the evening, the scariest guy in Bellator takes on a proven veteran in a fight that's every bit as fun as it is head-scratchingly stupid.

"Because this is Bellator..." is a sentence you should get used to when reading about the promotion. Case in point: Because this is Bellator and title shots are granted to tournament winners ONLY and because they do about two tournaments a year... well, that all boils down to champions waiting a long time on the sidelines for tournaments to resolve themselves.

Bellator's solution: non-title "superfights." Sounds good, right? Well yes, but only if your champion wins. If he loses in a division he's supposed to be champion in... Well, it really puts a dent the ol' credibility department. Just look at the example of Christian M'Pumbu, who was recently steamrolled in a "non-title superfight" against Travis Wiuff. I'm guessing most fans aren't putting much stock in M'pumbu's LHW title until he gets that win back.

But back to Saturday, when Bellator Middleweight champ Hector Lombard faces Trevor Prangley in a "non-title superfight" that has "disaster" written all over it. Or would, if a) the fight wasn't at a 195lbs catchweight, and b) Hector Lombard wasn't so scary he makes Freddy Kreuger, Chuck Norris, and the "Just Bleed" guy crap their collective pants.

The first guy to successfully defend a Bellator strap, Lombard has made a name for himself by separating more men from awakeness than all the Twilight films combined. That he also brings a world-class Judo background to the game is even more impressive. But really, Hector is all about his power. His crushing, soul destroying, Mike Tyson in his prime, kind of power.

Like I said, scary.

Opposite him is Trevor Prangley, a respected veteran with a wealth of international experience. In addition, Prangley brings a strong wrestling pedigree with him that would, in theory, be fun to see tested against Lombard's skillet.

I say "in theory" because Prangley is 1-3-1 in his last five fights. His only win was a razor-close split decision over Keith Jardine, who was himself riding a 4 losing streak at the time. That's not exactly a confidence inspiring statistic.

So Prangley isn't exactly surging at the moment. In fact, there's a very real possibility he's so far over the hill that he's back on flat land again. That's no disrespect to Prangley who, as a man who man his living fighting in a cage, is a badass beyond reproach.

But dem's da facts, and they don't look too good for Trevor.

Still, you never know. Mike Chandler has a very real chance of derailing all of Bellator's big plans for Eddie Alvarez - just like Trevor Prangley can make me eat every one of my words if he beats an inflated Hector Lombard.

We won't know until Saturday night.
