One month ago, UFC President Dana White claimed middleweight king Anderson Silva (Pictured) will fight welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre AND light heavyweight champ Jon Jones at some point after he signs a 10-fight contract extension. During Fridayâs UFC 157 fan Q&A session, White took his proclamation a step further by promising âThe Spiderâ will face GSP or Jones in 2013.
âGSP is gonna defend his title against Nick Diaz. Anderson Silva will defend his title this summer,â White stated. âAnd before the end of this year, we will soon see a super-fight with either GSP and Anderson Silva, or Anderson Silva and Jon Jones.
âSo, one of them is coming.â
Of course, the caveat is all three superstars must win their next scraps.
St-Pierre is up first. He defends his 170-pound crown against Nick Diaz March 16th at UFC 158. Jones meets Chael Sonnen in the Octagonâs following pay-per-view broadcast, UFC 159 on April 27th.
Silva, meanwhile, has been marinating since disposing of Stephan Bonnar in a light heavyweight affair this past October. The soon-to-be 38-year-old, who still hasnât ironed out the final details for his unprecedented contract extension, is rumored to put his hardware up for grabs against Chris Weidman on July 6th.
Silva has dominated the middleweight class while sprinkling in three light heavyweight fights during his unbeaten run in the UFC. The Brazilianâs sporadic dabbling in the 205-pound division is why most thought a blockbuster bout with Jones had a greater possibility of coming to fruition than with GSP.
However, White revealed last week Silva is willing to shed the 15 pounds required to challenge St-Pierre for his throne. Silva hasnât competed at welterweight since a disqualification loss to Yushin Okami at âRumble on the Rock 8.â He weighed 174 pounds for that January 2006 contest.

What a night, what a fight. Liz Carmouche appeared to be on her way to shocking the world when she got on the champions back and started cranking her face. Tito Ortiz might be new to this whole manager thing, and he may not have made the right call in having star client Cristiane âCyborgâ Santos (Pictured) decline a contract offer from the UFC in favor of Invicta FC, but he sure does know how to keep Cyborgâs name in the headlines.
