A welterweight affair between Demian Maia (Pictured) and Jon Fitch was the second scrap to air live in Saturday’s “UFC 156: Aldo vs. Edgar” pay-per-view broadcast. Please click HERE to catch our live results and play-by-play coverage. Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada is hosting tonight’s festivities. The show is headlined by a featherweight superfight between champion Jose Aldo and Frankie Edgar. Betting Line: Favorite (-) Underdog (+) Demian Maia +175 Jon Fitch -220 Here is the play-by-play from Fitch vs. Maia: 1stRound: Maia immediately goes for a shot and trips him to the canvas. The jiu jitsu ace takes his back. Fitch stands up and is piggybacking his opponent. Maia has slapped on a body triangle and continues to work for a rear-naked choke. They’ve been in the same position for nearly two minutes. Maia lets go and drags him to the ground. Fitch fights to his feet. Fitch grabs the fence to prevent the takedown. Maia is kneeing his thighs. Not sure why the crowd is booing, Maia is dominating him. 5thRound scored it: Maia, 10-9. 2ndRound: Fitch firing off tow leg kicks to start the middle stanza. Maia easily drags him to the mat once again. He instantly takes Fitch’s back. Maia locks on a body triangle and has two minutes to work. I’ve never seen Fitch get schooled like this on the ground, maybe to Georges St-Pierre. Crowd booing again as the horn blares. Not quite sure what the issue is… 5thRound scored it: Maia, 10-9. 3rdRound: Fitch needs a finish to win this. Unfortunately for him, he hasn’t finished anyone since submitting Roan Carneiro in June of 2007.  Third verse, same as the first (and second) – Maia clinches and takes him down. He moves to his back with the greatest of ease. Fitch wiggles free, but Maia shoots again. Fitch tries a guillotine choke and ends up in top position. They’re back to their feet. Maia gets a body lock. He’s been all over Fitch like a wet blanket. Fitch gets free and needs to unleash the kitchen sink in the last 90 seconds. Forget that, Maia takes him right back down. 5thRound scored it: Maia, 10-9 (Maia, 30-27). Official Result: Demian Maia Defeated Jon Fitch via Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

Demian Maia wants to submit Jon Fitch in a minute.

I was considering listing all of Demian Maia’s grappling accomplishments, awards and ribbons in the body of this article so everyone could understand just exactly who we’re dealing with here in Demian Maia, but it would be too out of control. The list would be too long. If you want to see an idea of [...]
