Forrest Griffin (pictured), the man who won the inaugural season of “The Ultimate Fighter,” has called it a career. Griffin announced his retirement from mixed martial arts during Saturday’s UFC 160 post-fight press conference.  “When [UFC president Dana White] says you should retire, you should retire. Otherwise, you’ll blow your knee out,” Griffin stated. Speaking of tearing a knee, Griffin was forced out of December’s scrap against Phil Davis after blowing out his knee. It was the second consecutive time an injury preventing him from keeping an appointment. White has been wanting Griffin to retire since last August, but didn’t want to push him because he didn’t think Griffin was ready to hear it at the time. White says Griffin will have a job with the UFC for the rest of his life. However, he isn’t sure exactly what the former light heavyweight champion will do for the promotion.  Griffin completes his 12-year professional run with a 19-7 record. He and Stephan Bonnar participated in one of the most significant fights in MMA history when they met in the finals of TUF 1 in 2005. White later confirmed the duo will be inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame in July. Griffin’s other career highlight came in 2007 when he upset Mauricio “Shogun” Rua at UFC 76 to capture the 205-pound crown. Griffin was last seen beating Tito Ortiz at UFC 147. It was revealed shortly after the unanimous decision victory that the 33-year-old Griffin was medically prescribed Testosterone Replacement Therapy for the bout.
