When a UFC fighter’s job is on the line, they typically have two choices; Win their next scrap or drop a weight class and win their next bout. It appears Hector Lombard (pictured) may be going with option #2. On this week’s edition of FUEL TV’s “UFC Tonight,” reporter Ariel Helwani revealed the former Bellator middleweight champion has recruited famed MMA dietitian Mike Dolce to help him modify his stocky build – with a transition to welterweight serving as the ultimate goal. “I spoke to Lombard today and he’s about to work with Mike because he wants to get leaner,” Helwani shared. “He walks around at 205 [pounds] and he feels that at his height, it’s not really at his best interest to be fighting at 185. He knows the UFC wants him to go down. “First thing’s first, he needs to have nose surgery. He broke his nose fighting Yushin Okami so the surgery is coming up next for him – hopefully next week. After that, he’s going to focus on that cut down to 170.” Lombard had rattled off 24 consecutive wins prior to signing with the UFC last April. Although “Lightning” entered the big leagues with much hoopla, he has only produced a subpar 1-2 mark inside the Octagon. UFC president Dana White isn’t quite prepared to call the promotion’s latest big acquisition a complete bust. Last month, White likened the 35-year-old to a former big fish swimming in a small pond who is now nearly drowning in the deep end.
