The fast approaching UFC 146 fight card gets shaken up as Evan Dunham and Gabriel Gonzaga have been forced to withdraw after suffering injuries during training. UFC officials have announced that Jamie Varner and Dave Herman have agreed to take their slots on the card.Varner will face the dynamic Edson Barboza in a lightweight bout while Herman will match-up against Roy Nelson in a heavyweight battle.
Varner (19-6-1), a former WEC lightweight champion, once again returns to the Zuffa fold. Since departing the WEC, Varner has three wins in four outings with each victory coming by stoppage in under two minutes. In his most recent bout in February, Varner defeated veteran Drew Fickett at XFC 16 in just 40 seconds.
Herman (21-3) will be making his third appearance inside the Octagon where he has posted a 1-1. In his UFC debut, Herman recorded a technical knockout of John Olav Einemo at UFC 131. He would then suffer a a TKO loss to Stefan Struve at UFC on FUEL TV in February.
UFC 146 takes place from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on May 26th. In the main event of the card, UFC heavyweight champion Junior Dos Santos will put his title on the line against former champion Frank Mir.
