UFC President Dana White just can’t seem to make up his mind when it comes to who gets next dibs at the light heavyweight throne. Exactly eight days after claiming a victorious Alexander Gustafsson would leapfrog into the top contender spot, White changed course once again and said either Lyoto Machida (Pictured) or Dan Henderson is now next in line. “This fight’s all about the winner,” White stated at Thursday’s press conference in reference to UFC 157‘s co-main event. “The winner gets a shot at Jon Jones.” That’s assuming Jones retains his hardware against Chael Sonnen at UFC 159, of course… Gustafsson fights former Strikeforce 205-pound champ Gegard Mousasi on April 6th. White revealed following today’s presser that Gustafsson may ride the pine for his chance at the belt if he beats Mousasi. As far as Machida and Henderson are concerned, this song and dance has become old hat. They were both promised opportunities at the hardware in the past, only to lose their places in line for whatever reason. Henderson missed out on his shot to fight for the crown when he was forced out of UFC 151 after tearing his knee. Machida, meanwhile, was dubbed the division’s top contender in August after putting Ryan Bader to sleep, but has dropped down the pecking order after declining a last-minute scrap against Jones at UFC 152. To add further confusion to the fire, White professed just last month Henderson was in the driver’s seat if he beat “The Dragon.” Machida and Henderson collide this Saturday inside Honda Center in Anaheim, California. They now understand what the stakes are, but knowing White, all that can once again change at the drop of a hat.
