After Michael Bisping lost his shot at Anderson Silva’s UFC middleweight title this past Saturday, the debate has never been hotter as to who should get next dibs at Silva’s crown. Of course, just don’t ask Chris Weidman for his two cents. Light heavyweight Rashad Evans (Pictured) is someone who has previously expressed interest in shedding 20 pounds in order to swim in “The Spider’s” pond. Although, Evans’ UFC 156 fight against Antonio Rogerio Nogueira is currently the only scrap on his radar. “Everything’s a possibility, but first things first,” Evans stated during Monday’s conference call of potentially facing Silva. “The only thing that’s on my mind is getting past Nogueira. He’s a tough competitor and I’m excited to compete against him. “So that right there has taken my focus more than anything.” However, just because the former 205-pound king has his sights set on Nogueira doesn’t mean he hasn’t thought about the prospects of being the UFC’s only athlete to have sat on the light heavyweight and middleweight thrones. And obviously, all middleweight doors lead to Silva. “It would be a tremendous honor to have held the belt in two different divisions, but also the chance to compete against Anderson Silva [would be an honor],” Evans stated. “He’s one of my favorite fighters to watch, I get excited every single time I get a chance to watch him fight. “When my career’s all said and done, I want to be able to look back and say I competed against some of the best guys ever in history. For me to be able to get a chance to compete against Anderson Silva, it would be an amazing experience and something I would take with me forever, and to be able to say I went against the best guy and beat the best guy. Wait up. Did you just say you’d beat the baddest 185-pounder in bare feet even though you’ve never competed in his division during your nine-year career? “I believe I can beat Anderson Silva and I believe that the skills and stuff that I have is something he would have a hard time dealing with,” Evans matter-of-factly stated. “But to compete against the guy, first and foremost, would be an honor in and of itself.” Like Evans said, nothing happens unless he surpasses Little Nog first. The veterans collide February 2nd inside Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
