In an attempt spice up a slow mixed martial arts news day, the world’s most prestigious MMA promotion added a middleweight bout between Rich Franklin (Pictured) and Cung Le to the UFC 148 roster.
Franklin had dabbled in the light heavyweight division in his prior two outings. He hasn’t been seen since dropping a unanimous decision loss to Forrest Griffin at UFC 126 in February 2011.
The former 185-pound champion has been recovering from an October shoulder surgery. Franklin has alternated between wins and losses over his last six scraps.
Le posted a TKO defeat to Wanderlei Silva in his highly-anticipated Octagon debut in November. The 39-year-old hasn’t sniffed the win column since beating Scott Smith in June of 2010.
The July 7th event takes place inside MGM Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas, Nevada.
