UFC Lightweight Sam Stout

Sam Stout (Pictured) will make his first post-Shawn Tompkins fight against Thiago Tavares at UFC 142. The event takes place January 14th at a yet-to-be announced city in Brazil.

Stout was slated to meet Dennis Siver a couple of weeks ago at UFC 137, but was forced to withdraw after the unexpected passing of Tompkins, his brother-in-law and longtime trainer.

Stout was most recently seen unleashing one of the most electrifying knockouts of the year when he viciously put Yves Edwards down at UFC 131. The highlight reel performance bumped his pro record to 17-6-1.

Tavares will be making his second straight appearance in his homeland. The Brazilian beat Spencer Fisher at UFC 134 in August.

Although no location has been announced for the show, the HSBC Arena in Rio de Jenairo is the current frontrunner to play host.

Here are the athletes expected to appear in the event:

Sam Stout vs. Thiago Tavares

Vitor Belfort vs. Anthony Johnson

Chad Mendes vs. Jose Aldo (UFC Featherweight Champion)
