And here we were worried UFC lightweight champ Anthony Pettis might not be able to make December’s proposed fight against TJ Grant (pictured). According to Grant, he’s still not completely recovered from the concussion he suffered in July to be able to challenge Pettis for his crown at UFC on FOX 9. “Hey people. Quick update. Unfortunately I won’t be fighting Pettis on dec 14,” Grant tweeted Monday night. “I am still not yet 100% n can’t commit to fight. UFC is going with someone else instead. “It sucks but it is the best for both myself and the UFC. Please don’t worry. Ill be back and if I gotta fight someone else to get back to where I wanna be then that’s what I’m gonna do. I’m not bitter. Thanks.” Grant initially earned his next dibs status by steamrolling former top contender Gray Maynard at UFC 160. He was forced to pull out of last month’s bout with then-champ Benson Henderson because of the concussion, which opened the door for Pettis to serve as substitute. Pettis suffered a grade two PCL sprain and an LCL strain on his left knee during his submission victory over Henderson at UFC 164. Fortunately for “Showtime,” he avoided surgery and should be back in action in two months. If his knee recovers as anticipated, UFC president Dana White intends for Pettis to headline UFC on FOX 9. No word on who the UFC has chosen to leapfrog the lightweight line and challenge Pettis for his freshly-minted throne. UFC on FOX 9 takes place December 14 inside Sleep Train Arena (formerly known as Arco Arena).
