LOS ANGELES, CA - OCTOBER 24: UFC fighter Cain Velasquez (top) battles with UFC fighter Ben Rothwell (bottom) during their Heavyweight bout at UFC 104: Machida vs. Shogun at Staples Center on October 24, 2009 in Los Angeles, California. (Photo by Jon Kopaloff/Getty Images)

By the way these gentleman are placing their fist directly on one anothers chin you know they mean business The best Heavyweights in the world will close out the UFC calendar year tonight in Sin City tonight. Only one will emerge as "The Baddest Man on the Planet." Will it be Dos Santos who enters 2013 as the first man to defend the Heavyweight championship twice since Brock Lesnar? Or will Velasquez join Randy Couture and Tim Sylvia on the short list of men who have held the title multiple times. Tonight's the night folks. It's Main Event Title Fight time. Let's go!

The Records:

Junior dos Santos: 15-1 MMA, 9-0 UFC

Cain Velasquez: 10-1 MMA, 8-1 UFC

What Have You Done For Me Lately?

Dos Santos: He's finished 7 of his 9 opponents during his UFC tenure. The two men he couldn't finish, Roy Nelson and Shane Carwin, were forced to endure 15 minutes of pain. This guy is nasty.

Velasquez: After suffering the first loss of his career due to a overhand right to the temple delivered via JDS himself, Velasquez made quite the statement. He blooded and battered Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva at UFC 146 in Vegas thus earning himself a rematch against Dos Santos.

  Key Victims:

Dos Santos: A who's who of Heavyweights - Stefan Struve, Roy Nelson, Fabricio Werdum, Cain Velasquez, Gabriel Gonzaga, Shane Carwin, Mirko Cro Cop, and Frank Mir. Wow.

Velasquez: Brock Lesnar, Antonio Silva, Minotauro Nogueira, Cheick Kongo, and Ben Rothwell.

The Odds:    Dos Santos: -200    Velasquez: +160

What's at Stake?

Dos Santos: Legacy. If Dos Santos can defeat Velasquez again, he won't have to see him again. In my eyes he also makes himself the P4P #3 fighter in the world passing up GSP and Jose Aldo. If Dos Santos can win convincingly tonight, forget Anderson vs. GSP or Anderson vs. Jones. Let's see JDS vs. Jones. That's the real Super Fight that UFC fans deserve.

Velasquez: This is the most important fight of Cain's career. Like I stated above, if he loses to Dos Santos again he can forget about title shots until Junior drops the belt - which may be never. Looking up and down a card that screams must win situation after must win situation, nobody needs a win here more than Cain. If he does win, then it sets up the greatest Heavyweight trilogy of all-time.

So, lets review. A loss means it's time to help Daniel Cormier train for Dos Santos to bring the belt back to AKA. A win sets the stage for Cain vs. JDS III, a fight that could easily headline that big Cowboy Stadium show Jerry Jones and Dana White keep teasing.

Prediction: If there are any holes in the game of Junior dos Santos I've yet to find them. All this guy does is knock people out and smile. Oh yeah, he said he wants to start submitting people too. And I believe he can. So how does Cain Velasquez win this fight?

Cain has to get mean and nasty from the get go. The Cain we saw against JDS the first time around was somewhere else. I'm not saying that JDS got a cheap victory, it just wasn't the real Velasquez. Whether he was hurt or not (which he was) should never be used as an excuse. You better believe that tonight's Cain, the one we saw against Bigfoot and Big Nog, that Cain will get right in the face of Dos Santos. If JDS can win again tonight then he is not only the greatest Heavyweight in the world, he may just be the G.O.A.T. But it won't be without a fight. I see Velasquez taking JDS down, avoiding a couple of submission attempts and eventually finishing JDS with a vicious combination once the two fighters get back to their feet.       photo props - @danawhite
