One of the worst kept secrets in mixed martial arts was finally made official Monday. As expected, “UFC 156: Aldo vs. Edgar” was confirmed to go down February 2nd inside Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. Tickets for the Super Bowl Saturday show go on sale later this week. The event’s featured attraction showcases a superfight between reigning featherweight king Jose Aldo (Pictured) and Frankie Edgar. The duo were originally slated to collide in one of the most anticipated 145-pound affairs in mixed martial arts history until the leg Aldo injured in a motorcycle accident forced him to bow out of UFC 153. “Scarface” will be riding a 14-fight winning streak into the shootout. Aldo was last seen posterizing Chad Mendes at UFC 142. The 25-year-old assassin is arguably the baddest featherweight to ever storm the MMA scene. Edgar will be making his 145-pound debut inside the Octagon. The former lightweight champ is coming off six consecutive title fights, half of which were of the rematch variety. A heavyweight shootout between Alistair Overeem and Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva serves as the co-main event. However, Overeem’s participation is pending approval and licensing by the Nevada State Athletic Commission for March’s testosterone suspension. “Jose Aldo vs. Frankie Edgar is a fight the fans have wanted to see for a long time and on February 2nd, the superfight is going to happen,” UFC president Dana White said. “Our fights on Super Bowl weekend are always some of the biggest and best and this year will be no different. “In addition to the Aldo vs. Edgar featherweight title fight, we’ve got Alistair Overeem vs. ‘Bigfoot’ Silva, Rashad Evans vs. ‘Lil Nog,’ and Jon Fitch taking on Demian Maia.” Here are the card’s current roster: Erick Silva vs. Jay Hieron Jon Fitch vs. Demian Maia Rashad Evans vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira Alistair Overeem vs. Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva Frankie Edgar vs. Jose Aldo (UFC featherweight champion)
