If UFC middleweight king Anderson Silva (Pictured) gets his way, and it appears the most decorated fighter in Octagon history just might, “The Spider” and apparent top contender Chris Weidman will never cross paths. After Michael Bisping ate Vitor Belfort’s shin earlier this month to lose his shot at the crown, most MMA pundits – including Weidman – believed “The All-American” would be the most logical choice to get next dibs. “Weidman and his manager sat down and he said, ‘We want Anderson Silva. We want to fight him. I’m going to beat him. I’m going to be the next world champion,’” UFC president Dana White shared following Saturday’s UFC on FOX 6 press conference in Chicago. “I said, ‘OK. We’ll call you in a few weeks and we’ll get this thing figured out.’” Unfortunately for Team Weidman, they might not like what they’ll be hearing when their cell phone rings next month. Silva and longtime manager Ed Soares continue to play hardball when it comes to recognizing Weidman as a legitimate challenger to their reign. “This is typical Anderson Silva-Ed Soares craziness,” White stated. “Every [expletive] time there’s a fight, he wants to fight ‘Mighty Mouse’ Johnson. Then he wants to fight this guy and that guy. It’s always the same deal. It always happen. ‘I absolutely will not fight Chael Sonnen. He doesn’t deserve the title. I’m not doing this and I’m not doing that.’ This is what we do.” Weidman is recovering from a November shoulder surgery that will have him sidelined until March. Silva is currently marinating and doesn’t intend on returning until the spring. The timing is right for the 185-pounders to collide, but it appears Silva has gotten in White’s ear and the promotion will look to arrange another tango for the Brazilian. “We’re waiting on something and want to see if this thing pans out,” White added. “When we’re ready to announce it, we’ll announce it. [Silva] will defend his title, but it won’t be a super fight.”
