Melvin Manhoef was holding the pads for Lyoto Machida at the UFC 157 open workouts. We could end the article right there and 99% of the world would be satisfied, but if one was to only gush over Manhoef’s possible tutelage over Machida’s striking, then one wouldn’t be able to take in the rest of the sights and sounds of the UFC 157 open workouts. We’ve been to plenty media events across multiple combat sports, and to deny the buzz in Anaheim’s air — Saturday night is going to be special, this much is known, and how could it not be? After months of hype and mainstream media coverage, Ronda Rousey and Liz Carmouche are finally going to step into the Octagon. Supplementing the history in the making, Urijah Faber and Ivan Menjivar will duke it out in a rematch that’s been on the boiler for nearly seven years, and of course: Dan Henderson makes his return to the cage after the longest layoff in his career vs. karate man Lyoto Machida.
