Carl Edwards looks to avenge a 36th place finish last weekend at Talladega when the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series returns to the Charlotte Motor Speedway for Saturday’s Bank of America 500. Edwards finished 9th in the May Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte and one year ago was 3rd. He will look to use Charlotte to build on with only 5 races to go in the season.

Team:  No. 99 Frosted Flakes Ford Fusion

Crew Chief:  Chad Norris

Chassis: RK-782 – Last raced Atlanta, finished 36th

Carl Edwards on racing at Charlotte Motor Speedway:  “We just couldn’t catch a break in Talladega, but we head to Charlotte Motor Speedway this week where we have had success.  The strategy is the same.  We will just go for it and do everything we can to put our Kellogg’s Ford in to victory lane.  It’s a fast mile and a half and the track is very challenging.  It’s an important race for the team.  It will be exciting and the atmosphere is always intense under the lights in front of family, friends and the home crowd.  We just need to go in there and win.”

Crew chief Chad Norris on racing at Charlotte Motor Speedway:  “Charlotte is a good track for us and I feel like we have what we need to have a strong run.  We are taking the same car that we raced there in May at the All-Star Race and at Atlanta.  The 500-mile race is a little different than the 600, but starting out we’ll work with a similar set-up to what we had in May and go from there.  The temperature will be a lot cooler than in May and it will be dark when we start so those will be some differences to work through during the race.”

Fast Facts: Carl Edwards enters Saturday’s race 15th in the NASCAR Sprint Cup point standings.  In 30 starts this season, Edwards has accumulated three top-five and 12 top-10 finishes, and one pole.

FOR THE RECORD…Edwards will make his 16th Cup start at Charlotte Motor Speedway this weekend.  In his previous starts, Edwards has five top-five and nine top-10 finishes.  His average start is 18.2, and his average finish is 12.3.  Edwards has completed 99.0% of laps attempted at CMS. Of the 5319 laps Edwards has completed, he has led 98 of them.

IN THE LOOP… According to NASCAR’s Loop Statistics compiled over the last 15 races at CMS, Edwards has turned 113 of the track’s fastest laps, spent 2973 laps in the top 15 and led a total of 98 laps. Edwards’ driver rating is seventh best among active drivers.

ON THE TRACK…The 99 team will be bringing chassis RK-782 to CMS.  This car was last raced at Atlanta where Edwards was running in the top 10 when he had engine issues.

REWIND, CHARLOTTE, October 2011… Edwards started and finished the race in third place after leading only one lap in the 500-mile event.
