Matt Kenseth has rarely been more pleased in victory than he was Saturday night at Darlington Raceway. Maybe that's because of what he overcame to achieve the win.
Kenseth has long been one of NASCAR's stars, a past champion with two Daytona 500 titles. But the 41-year-old racer has found a new gear in his first season at Joe Gibbs Racing.

Joe Gibbs Racing celebrated in Victory Lane on Saturday night at Darlington Raceway - but it wasn't with the Toyota that dominated the NASCAR Sprint Cup Southern 500.

Many like to call Matt Kenseth NASCAR’s present-day David Pearson.
Known for his stealth-like driving style, Pearson wasn’t always the one who led the most laps in the race, but he was always there at the finish when it mattered.
That’s the exact trait Kenseth has been known for over the course of his thirteen full seasons at NASCAR’s top level.
With Pearson being known as...

Kurt Busch has been in position to win a pole position this season.
Back at Texas Motor Speedway in April, the elder Busch was on the pole until the final car left to qualify knocked him off the top spot.
