PLAYERS: Kevin Harvick
NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver and Bakersfield, Calif., native Kevin Harvick hosted the Third Annual Happy's Classic Golf Tournament Presented by Advanced Distribution and BlackHole Technologies, proceeds from which benefit the Kevin Harvick Foundation, on Wednesday.   The event, supported with platinum sponsorship from NTS Motorsports, was held at Bakersfield Country Club and was highlighted by the presentation of the Kevin Harvick Athletic Scholarship to California State University-Bakersfield student athlete Chase Goodvin.Goodvin, a member of the university's golf team, receives a one-year, full scholarship toward his collegiate education.   "It's been a year since our last Happy's Classic Golf Tournament, and while I can't honestly say my golf game has improved by leaps and bounds since then, the event's participants, donors and sponsors have elevated their generosity and goodwill to an even greater degree over last year," Harvick said."It is folks like these who enable us to do great work through the Kevin Harvick Foundation and give not only children, but student athletes like Chase, a brighter future."   The Kevin Harvick Athletic Scholarship was established to enable collegiate student athletes to pursue their dreams of obtaining an undergraduate degree while participating in athletics. It was first awarded to a California State University-Bakersfield student athlete in 2010 as part of a 12-year commitment to the school and Harvick's effort to give back to his hometown community of Kern County. The Kevin Harvick Foundation recently established a similar initiative at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill.   Harvick, who heads to Phoenix International Raceway this weekend for the penultimate race of the 2012 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season, took full advantage of his California swing this week by hosting charitable events in his hometown on consecutive days.Harvick teamed up with apparel company TapouT to donate new uniforms and gear to the wrestling team at North High School, the 1994 graduate's alma mater, on Tuesday.Harvick, a former North High School wrestler, and TapouT made the presentation during a school pep rally.   Harvick and TapouT also awarded four student scholarships totaling $11,000, a portion of which was donated by Bob Newberry, owner of NTS Motorsports and an alumnus of the school, to seniors who participated in an essay contest focusing on overcoming adversity in life. Applicants were required to be four-year college-bound, have maintained a minimum grade point average of 3.0 or higher and to have demonstrated excellence in overcoming adversity.   Furthermore, Harvick returns to Bakersfield in three weeks for the Budweiser Presents Happy's Birthday Bash at The Fox Theater on Dec. 1.Country music star Craig Morgan headlines the charity event benefitting the Kevin Harvick Foundation with a special guest appearance by Bridgette Tatum.Happy's Birthday Bash is open to the public and tickets are available by contacting the Fox Theater ticket office.   KHI PR
