Indianapolis, IN- Earlier this week, Kurt Busch announced along with Stewart/Haas Racing that they will join forces for the 2014 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season and beyond. With that announcement, a lot of folks were wondering if that was it for Busch and his Izod IndyCar Series dreams. Busch confirmed Tuesday it wasn’t a done deal just yet. “Something that’s still on the table,” said Busch regarding IndyCar still a possibility. “There’s certain timelines that I’ve agreed to with Michael Andretti if we’re still going to do it” Busch first tested an IndyCar at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway back in May. He piloted an Andretti Autosport prepared Chevrolet at IMS just two days prior to Opening Day for the Indianapolis 500 practice. That led to speculation that he’d racing in this year’s Indy 500. Busch passed all phases of Rookie Orientation but said after he just wasn’t physically and mentally ready to compete 500 miles and then race 600 miles in the Sprint Cup race at Charlotte directly after, but would love to race the 500 next May and do an oval race this year. That led to speculation and rumors up until last week’s announcement that Busch would join SHR that he would race at Fontana in October for Andretti. But once the deal with SHR was made most thought his IndyCar dreams would be gone. Not only is that not true, he even said Tony Stewart told him he’d go to Fontana with him next month if he wanted to race. He said Stewart was behind him if he wanted to race IndyCar’s. Busch said Fontana and Indy are still possible but everything needs to work out soon. Eric Smith is the Lead Motorsports Writer for Race Review Online.
