In the world of sports, if your name isn’t attached to some sort of food or drink product, apparently you’re not doing something right. We saw more evidence of this in 2012. Cincinnati Reds first baseman Joey Votto has a cereal. So does Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Justin Verlander. Add New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski to the list as well. Former Cleveland Browns quarterback Tim Couch appeared on a special edition of Maker’s Mark. Just to name a few.
Next up is NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt Jr., who will soon have his own line of potato chips, according to a release from Minnesota-based company KLN Family Brands.
KLN and Earnhardt formed Dale Jr. Foods, which will launch four flavors: Crispy Original, Carolina Barbecue, Creole & Green Onion, and Zesty Jalapeno.
The Barrel O’Fun snacks distribution area is predominately in the Midwest, however the Dale Jr. chips will be available nationwide. The bags will be sold in various sizes, including an 8 ounce grocery store version that has a suggested retail price of $3.79.
Earnhardt was voted NASCAR’s most popular driver in 2012, for the tenth year in a row, so it’s not much of a surprise that companies would want to be associated with him. And who doesn’t like potato chips?
The 38-year old came in at No. 23 on Forbes’ list of the World’s Highest Paid Athletes ($28.2 million) last year and earned an estimated $15 million through endorsements.
Look for Dale’s chips in stores next month and let us know how they are if you try any.
