It’s been a rough weekend for Las Vegas, Nevada native Kurt Busch. He struggled in practice yesterday and backed his struggles up with a mechanical failure in qualifying that leaked water under his car. The moisture was enough to cause him to spin out and make contact during the session. Busch, was 25th quickest in quals with a lap of 135.267 mph in his No. 78 Furniture Row Racing Chevrolet.  That didn’t matter though as he is forced to go to the back to start tomorrow’s Subway Fresh Fit 500 as they went with a back up car. Saturday saw the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series do two practice sessions in race trim in efforts to get their cars perfect for tomorrow. Busch, was 17th quickest in the first session with a speed of 134.103 mph then improved on that to finish sixth in the final practice session. His speed in the final session was also the quickest of the Chevrolet group. The question asked now is can Busch redeem himself with winning tomorrow’s race? I think he can. Busch looked very strong in that final session as they showed great teamwork in figuring out what went wrong on Friday and to get it fixed for a solid car for the race. His starting position won’t help tomorrow, but a strong pit strategy could give him a chance at the win. We don’t know how this new Gen-6 car will race tomorrow. NASCAR said this car will provide more passing and higher speeds but didn’t know the timetable to when that would be. They have to still get the kinks worked out in this car first. If the kinks are worked out to where there’s more passing than years past at the Phoenix International Raceway then Busch will be tough to beat. The years past PIR is known to provide races where track position and pit strategy is key. If you’re looking for a sleeper tomorrow go with the older Busch as he will try and give FRR their second career win.
