Determined, Hamlin had his team and those around him convinced he would be ready for Richmond, a full three weeks ahead of schedule. Just days before the race and the Danny Hamlin Short Track Showdown, Hamlin announced he wouldn’t be racing in either over the weekend in his home state. This caused a wrinkle in the No. 11 team, as his Cup car was prepared for his return instead of his replacement, Brian Vickers.
