Danica Patrick is the fastest girl in town for sure. Patrick won the pole for the Daytona 500 Sunday afternoon and made history by becoming the first female to ever win a Sprint Cup Series pole. Patrick and her No.10 team came into Daytona focused on being fast and they proved that in qualifying. Patrick will be leading the field to green next Sunday in the Daytona 500.
Jeff Gordon qualified second and he will be starting on the outside pole next Sunday. Patrick and Gordon are the only two drivers with guaranteed starting positions going into the Daytona 500 and the rest of the drivers will need to race their way into the Great American Race this Thursday in the Budweiser Duels. The duel races will go green Thursday afternoon and they will set the lineup for the 55th running of the Daytona 500.
Stewart-Hass Racing took three out of the top five starting positions during qualifying which proved they have fast cars for the 500. Patrick is the only one with a guaranteed top five starting spot but, her teammates (Newman and Stewart) can win their duels and join her in the top five. Thursday’s duels will be interesting as we see who can race their way into a good starting position for the Daytona 500.
