Team: No. 6 Cargill Beef Ford Mustang Crew Chief: Mike Kelley Chassis: RK-679 Bayne in Talladega, AL: Previous Nationwide races: April 2011 – Started 5th, finished 6th April 2010 – Started 39th, finished 13th Despite just two NASCAR Nationwide Series starts at Talladega Superspeedway, Bayne is the fastest driver early in a run (first 25% of laps run since a pit stop), averaging 192 mph. He is also the third fastest late in a run (last 25% of laps run since a pit stop). Bayne is second fastest on restarts, averaging 175 mph during the first two laps under a green flag. He is also fourth on the list of highest average running position, averaging 10th during those two races. The Car: Chassis RK-679 opened the 2013 season for the No.6 team at Daytona International Raceway earning the Coors Light Pole Award, leading three laps and finished 31st after being sent to the garages with rear-end problems. Bayne on Restrictor-Plate Racing: “The Nationwide cars produce some of the best restrictor-plate racing that we have. You can push, but it’s very limited how long you can push for. You might get a run for a few laps, then all of the sudden you’re overheating and you have to get off the car in front of you, and here comes somebody else. It’s really about timing, and controlling what you’re doing in the race; when you’re making your passes and who you’re working with.” Bayne on Daytona vs. Talladega: “I think we’ll see a little bit better racing at Talladega than at Daytona because there isn’t as tight of a corner. You’re able to carry momentum on the bottom as well as the top.” Bayne on Crashes at Talladega: “The biggest thing with the laps winding down is waiting on ‘The Big One’ to happen, and making sure you’re not the cause of (the crash) or you’re not in the middle of it. Everyone gets antsy and they feel like now is the time to go, and when they try to make stuff happen that their cars aren’t capable of, that’s when the crashes start coming. So you just have to stay out of trouble, especially with 10 to go.”
