The Boston Celtics and Cleveland Cavaliers kick off the 2009-2010 NBA regular season tonight in Cleveland, Ohio at 7:30 p.m. EST on TNT. Both teams are expected to challenge for the NBA crown this season and there will be no shortage of drama, both on and off the court, as these teams meet for the 16th time in the last 2 years.
On Boston's side, the Celtics come in just like they went out last season--short-handed. In addition to guard Tony Allen, who is still unavailable after a slow recovery from off-season ankle ligament surgery, and guard/forward Bill Walker, who remains sidelined after suffering a knee injury early in training camp, the team will also be without services of forward Brian Scalabrine, who suffered a sprain ankle last week after stepping on a sideline photographer. Additionally, in the last 24 hours, the Celtics have learned they will be without the services of forward/center Glen "Big Baby" Davis, who suffered a broken thumb early Sunday morning in a scuffle with a drunken childhood friend. After surgery this afternoon, Big Baby is looking at a 6-8 week recovery time and a possible fine from the Celtics for the actions that led to his injury. With these injuries, Boston will only be dressing 11 men for tonight's game.
