From his scouting report on Draft Express:Featuring terrific ball-handling skills, a lightning quick first step, excellent speed in the open floor, and a penchant for getting teammates involved, Schroeder did an outstanding job in both transition and in the half-court, getting to virtually wherever he wanted on the floor. He executed his team’s offense effectively, doing a good job of pushing the ball inside when needed, and finding teammates constantly spotting up on the perimeter or cutting to the rim for a layup after blowing past his man. While Schroeder isn’t nearly as good at creating for his teammates in the half-court as Rajon Rondo (few are), he already has a better shooting touch, making 40.2% of his threes and 84% of his free throws last season in Germany. It seems a bit redundant to spend a first round pick on what is already the Celtics’ strongest position, but Ainge has indicated he prefers not to draft based on need. I’m certainly not going to complain about the possibility of having a backup point guard for once.Take this promise with a grain of salt, there were similar rumblings about Royce White and the Celtics last year that never came to fruition. White was selected by the Rockets and Ainge happily took Jared Sullinger with the 21st pick after his precipitous drop out of the lottery. Ainge is always looking to wheel and deal and a lot could change with the draft still a month away. It’s entirely possible the Celtics won’t even have the 16th pick when June 27th rolls around, or maybe they’ll have an opportunity thats too good to pass up (a la Sullinger). Until then keep Schroeder in mind, he’s currently projected to go in the middle of the first round, right around that 16th pick.Follow Jordan on Twitter: @HiggsOnHoops
