The Los Angeles Lakers are slowly starting to resemble the team most thought they would be after headline-grabbing offseason acquisitions. The Philadelphia 76ers, conversely, are fading fast after a solid start. The Lakers seek their seventh win in eight games and their fourth straight at home on Tuesday night when they face the road-weary 76ers. After adding Dwight Howard and Steve Nash in the offseason, Los Angeles' expectations were lofty enough to send coach Mike Brown packing after a 1-4 start. Things initially didn't go much better for new coach Mike D'Antoni, who started off 4-9. But with the Lakers' once stagnant offense gaining more fluidity, they are 6-1 since. Los Angeles (15-15) is averaging 107.1 points per game during that stretch. The last four have seen Nash back from a seven-week absence due to a small fracture in his leg. He is averaging 12.3 points and 9.5 assists with 2.5 turnovers since returning. Los Angeles is averaging 21.4 assists on the...

Van Gundy: Dwight isn't himself

Stan Van Gundy says Dwight Howard has not looked explosive or dominant since joining the Lakers and does not seem like himself.

Steve Nash: Lakers are lacking chemistry

The Los Angeles Lakers have improved since their horrendous start to the month of December, but they still do not look like the championship contender most experts expected them to be before the season began. Steve Nash has averaged almost 10 assists per game and his return from injury has helped, but L.A. has still played inconsistently both on offense and defense. The Lakers lost...

Steve Nash has prevented the Lakers from trading Pau Gasol

The fact of the matter is, the Lakers are still trying to find their identity.  There is no question about that.  They waited for the return of their All-Star point guard in Steve Nash to save the world.  So far, they have been doing well and the team can definitely [...]

Steve Nash: Is An All-Star This Year

Lakers guard Steve Nash said Holiday’s play gave the Sixers a big lift. “Obviously they’re a different team with him. We beat them at their place by 20 without him,” Nash said (the margin was actually 13 points in the December meeting, 111-98). “I think he gives them obviously a very talented players but he also makes guys around him better.  He makes it more difficult...

Steve Nash: 'We're running out of time'

The Lakers fell to the Philadelphia 76ers on Tuesday night, dipping to 15-16 while struggling to get stops against Jrue Holiday and his teammates. The Lakers haven't had a lot of time together because of injuries, but questions persist about the roster itself. Do the Lakers have the pieces they need to win, once given enough collective experience, or are they just a .500 team...

Steve Nash Says Lakers Are ‘Running Out Of Time’

“It’s confounding,” Nash said. “It’s frustrating. We’re in a tough position. We really have a lot of ground to make up. We’re not finding a lot of answers right now, and we’re struggling a little bit.” Nash has played in just seven games all season. The lack of cohesion is natural, given the lack of reps… “We need common experiences. So far we just look like...

Kobe: 'Best I've played in a while'

The Los Angeles Lakers may have started slow at just 15-15 for the season, but one player says this is the best he's played in a long time. This is probably the best I've played in a while," Kobe Bryant told ESPN after Monday's practice.  "I've had years the last few years where I've felt pretty good but we kept my minutes down so the numbers didn...

Stan Van Gundy: Dwight Howard hasn’t looked like himself

Stan Van Gundy still communicates with the player who was most responsible for him being successful with the Orlando Magic, and the same guy who was chiefly responsible for him being fired. In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Van Gundy said he still exchanges friendly text messages with Dwight Howard. In the interview, Van Gundy discussed Howard’s status with the Los Angeles...

Magic's defense once bright, now a fading light

The Orlando Magic obviously lost Dwight Howard, who is one of the best defensive players in the NBA, in the offseason, and many expected the team's defense to suffer mightily as a result. But early in the season, the Magic have showed promise at times on defense, despite being very young in the frontcourt. It became the bedrock of the team's fast start. However, lately...
