SportsCenter just reported that Allen Iverson announced in his twitter page that he'll be joining the Memphis Grizzlies for the upcoming season. The terms of the deal are still undisclosed but it's pretty safe to say that AI is going to get at least the midlevel exception which is a lot of money.
That's a bad move for Memphis in my opinion. Besides Oklahoma City, no other team has as much prospects as the Grizzlies but by signing Iverson they slow down the development process of those guys because it's impossible not handle him the ball and let him control the pace of the game. Make no mistake, AI is not Steve Nash, he won't distribute the ball, he won't penetrate and dish it out to Rudy Gay, OJ Mayo or Mike Conley, he'll penetrate and go to the basket, best case scenario: Mark Gasol, Hasheem Thabeet and Zach Randolph will lead the league in rebounds.
"I feel that they are committed to developing a winner and I know that I can help them to accomplish that. I feel that I can trust them.", Iverson in his Twitter page.
The home run about signing AI is that he's interesting. People like him, like to watch him. Last season he had the worst season of his career and still we all voted him to the All Star Game. Memphis had the worst attendance average in the NBA, fans quit on them after the Pau Gasol trade and now they will be back to watch AI.
Allen Iverson will certainly help them outside the court with attendance however I'm not sure how much he'll help them inside the court. He'll probably help them to win a couple of games by his individual talent but I'm not sure if Mike Conley gets any happier to have his minutes diminished or Rudy Gay or OJ Mayo will get any happier by having less touches. This can be a move that could cost the Grizzlies a bright future.

The Answer to the Memphis Blues?
The Memphis Grizzlies officially announced the signing of G Allen Iverson today. The contract is for one year and is worth $3.5M, and it raises a lot of eyebrows on if this arrangement can work. Apparently for Iverson, it was clear that he would have to accept a bench role to play, considering he did not want to come off the bench for the Los Angeles Clippers, and despised the idea...
