LOS ANGELES -- Forget about Dwight Howard's bitter reunion with the Orlando Magic. Arron Afflalo wasn't about to let that circus derail his hometown happiness. The former UCLA Bruin and native Angelino scored a season-high 30 points, and Orlando employed the familiar Hack-A-Dwight strategy to perfection as the Magic shocked the Lakers 113-103 Sunday night at Staples Center. After trailing by as much as seven points midway through the fourth quarter, Orlando went on a 36-19 run to close the game, sending Howard to the free-throw line possession after possession. With the Magic hounding him at every opportunity in the last six minutes, Howard made just seven of 14 free throws down the stretch. Howard, who moved from central Florida to southern California in an offseason trade, had 21 points and 15 rebounds and finished 9-for-21 at the foul line. After the game, he downplayed the sentiment of the contest, despite wearing a scowl during the fourth quarter and in the postg...

Dwight Howard knocks down a three-pointer

Dwight Howard isn’t known for his skills on offense. It basically consists of being able to get the ball low on the block and dunking or performing the Mikan Drill. Howard is so bad as a shooter that he actually lost a FT and 3pt-shooting contest to the mascot for the Los Angeles Kings. Yes, [...]

Magic Wands: Howard not looking back

Tonight, the Magic will face Dwight Howard for the first time. A tumultuous year of questions and indecision will not be remedied or rectified in this one meeting. Apologies and forgiveness will not be handed out. At this point, all the parties are more interested in moving on. Dwight Howard is moving on, recognizing that he made some mistakes, although perhaps not realizing...

Magic top Dwight Howard's Lakers in reunion

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Arron Afflalo scored 30 points, Glen Davis added 23 points and 12 rebounds, and the Orlando Magic beat Dwight Howard in their first game against their longtime center, stunning the Los Angeles Lakers 113-103 on Sunday night. Jameer Nelson On Dwight Howard: “He’s My Opponent And That’s It”

Jameer Nelson, who’s a game-time decision (tendinitis) vs. the Lakers, was asked at this morning’s shootaround what it will be like to see former teammate Dwight Howard play for the Los Angeles Lakers tonight. Playing alongside each other for eight seasons, Howard and Nelson were once close, and while the Magic point guard had nothing negative to say about Howard, he implied...

Magic 113, Lakers 103

LOS ANGELES -- Forget about Dwight Howard's bitter reunion with the Orlando Magic. Arron Afflalo wasn't about to let that circus derail his hometown happiness. The UCLA alumnus and native Angelino scored a season-high 30 points, and Orlando employed the familiar Hack-A-Dwight strategy to perfection as the Magic shocked the Lakers 113-103 Sunday night at Staples Center...

Jameer Nelson Says Magic Win Over Lakers “Meant A lot”

Dwight Howard played 8 seasons for the Orlando Magic.  Sunday night, he faced his former team for the first time since being traded to the Lakers.  His reaction? “It wasn’t emotional.” Really? Well, it was for his former teammates who got dragged through the distraction ridden season last year.  “We can all say it was just a basketball game, but we know because of things...

Sweet vindication for Magic, Orlando

There was something different about the night of Sunday, December 2, 2012. Something that is a rarity in modern day professional athletics. Sometimes there are not rational explanations for why unexpected events occur. The numbers do not always tell the entire story and you do not play a basketball game on paper. The only numbers that really mattered on this night were 113 and...

Magic let it ride out West

A let down would have been understandable for the Magic as they traveled upstate from an emotional victory over the Lakers on Sunday night. Even Orlando fans might have excused it thanks to the gravity of what defeating Dwight Howard meant to a lot of fans. Jacque Vaughn though called it a "typical win." Again, it certainly was not that. But maybe it is becoming...

POTD 11/30/12: Tyler Zeller on Lou Williams

This is a nice dunk, but it’s kind of backwards.  I mean, isn’t it supposed to be the explosively-athletic, highly-experienced perimeter player throwing down over the rookie big man?  That’s normally how the story goes, but instead, Tyler Zeller flipped the script on Lou Williams… Honorable mentions to Dwight Howard and Kris Humphries.  You know what, let’s give Danilo...

Energetic Magic avoid letdown, dump Warriors

OAKLAND -- Orlando Magic coach Jacque Vaughn cautioned his team after Sunday's emotional win over old pal Dwight Howard and the Lakers in Los Angeles to keep the party short. A hot Golden State Warriors team awaited 24 hours later. After the Magic used a long-range assault from J.J. Redick and Arron Afflalo to complete the road sweep with a 102-94 win Monday night, the rookie...
