The trade deadline netted Jordan Crawford for the C's - who should add depth to the 1 and 2 voids created by the injuries to Rajon Rondo and Leandro Barbosa (now with the Wiz). But many feel the Celts came up short at the deadline in trying to plug their hole(s) at the 5 - and most certainly adding a "big" would now be Boston's primary goal.
The expected route would be for Danny Ainge to comb the upcoming waiver wires for a candidate but curiously ... we discovered that he may be exploring another, less-usual way to find his man:

Some he said/she said stuff with less than two days to go before the trade deadline. Here's Danny Ainge:
I’m not trading Rajon Rondo away for discounted dollars because he’s hurt. We collectively as an organization have decided not to do that.
And now Chris Broussard:
Sources say Boston willing to trade injured PG Rajon Rondo in right deal.
For one reason or another a lot...
Despite the injury, the Boston Celtics have made Rajon Rondo available for trade. However, a deal is unlikely. If the team were to get anything done, it would probably have to be after the season. Right now, Rondo is rehabbing from a torn ACL. According to ESPN Boston, if the Celtics received an offer for Rondo, they would not immediately turn it down. It's not beyond...
Agent for Rajon Rondo, Bill Duffy, tells USAT that Boston GM Danny Ainge assured him today the Celtics PG won't be traded. Story to come.

Another update in a crazy time before the trade deadline, this new information seems to be pretty plausible. Rondo is currently out with a season-ending injury, so his value would not be very high...
The Boston Celtics currently sit with a roster of 13 bodies, but two — Rajon Rondo and Jared Sullinger — will miss the rest of the 2013 season.
The Celtics may be looking to add a big man to their core, and one name that has popped up is DJ White. According to ESPN’s Marc Stein, the Boston Celtics will look to sign the former Charlotte Bobcat to a 10-day contract.
But the Celtics leader was upset that the allegedly private conversations had been revealed.
“Hogwash,” was his initial response. “You know what? I don’t comment on any trade rumors at all. It doesn’t do me any good to make any comments at all.”
Reminded that each report had come in perspective, with the Celts asking more than a Rondo’s ransom, Ainge...
I have been away from the internet since the trade deadline passed, but I'm sure there's an outrage somewhere because "Danny Ainge hasn't blown this team up" or that "Danny Ainge didn't make any big moves." (Reportedly, Felger was ripping Ainge apart yesterday, and I'm not shocked to hear that from someone who doesn't know anything about...

T-40 hours until the NBA's trade deadline, and in case you haven't noticed - there are a few Celtics related rumors floating around. And by a few, I mean a million (CelticsLife has all the latest trade buzz for you right here). However, the games do not end while GM's across the league ponder their team's future, and for the Celtics, their Rondo-less journey continued...
Danny Ainge admitted that there have been more conversations involving the Celtics than in previous seasons.
The 2013 NBA trade deadline has come and gone without a lot of movement. Guys like Josh Smith, Paul Pierce, Dwight Howard and Rajon Rondo have had their names thrown around in different scenarios stayed put. It was probably disappointing for quite a few fans who thought their team might change for better or worse. [...]
Danny Ainge had a difficult decision in the weeks leading up to the trade deadline. He had the choice of trading their core players, Rajon Rondo (who is out of the year), Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce and rebuild, or keep their Big Three, stay the course, try to win a series or two in the playoffs this season and go for a championship when Rondo comes back and is healthy next...
On Tuesday, BYU basketball head coach Dave Rose received a commitment from a young man with a last name that’s familiar to BYU fans. Jake Toolson from Highland High School in Arizona gave his word that he would sign at BYU and follow in the footsteps of family members Danny Ainge and Andy Toolson.
Folks, we have a true legend in our midst in this installment of “Celebrity Fan Friday”. Her name is Susan Sykes, but most know her as “Busty Heart”. Susan busted-out onto the scene during an appearance on CBS during the 1986 NBA Playoffs. This video is pure gold. You get to watch Danny Ainge tackle Tree Rollins, a young Doc Rivers shoot free-throws and listen as Brent Musburger...
We often wonder what opposing teams, their beat reporters and bloggers are saying about the Celtics. Here’s a look at some enemy chatter from Washington related to the deal for Jordan Crawford.
BNIE: A. Leandro Barbosa wasn’t giving their second unit real punch when on the court, is out anyway and is expiring at the end of the year. Jordan Crawford gives Danny Ainge another rookie...
When the Celtics take the floor tonight in Phoenix, Paul Pierce will be announced as their starting small forward, much like he has nearly every game for the past 15 seasons. However, if Fred Kerber of the New York Post is to be believed, Danny Ainge called the Nets yesterday and made them an offer for Pierce, only to be rebuffed.
