Of the NBA-record 17 championship teams the fabled Boston Celtic franchise
has fielded, which is the very best of the best?
To figure that puzzle out, I put together a fictional tournament of Celtic
champions using the eye test, much reading and research, poring over
Youtube clips on the older teams, and statistical analysis to come up with
which legendary Celtic title squad I think is the cream of the crop.
The results are below.
Championship year team (season record, playoff record, head coach, average
points a game for and against)
1959 Celtics (52-20, 8-3, Red Auerbach, 116.4-109.9 ppg)
Starters: B. Sharman (20.4 ppg, 93.2 FT%), B. Cousy (20 ppg, 8.6 apg), T.
Heinsohn (18.8 ppg, 9.7 rpg), B. Russell 16.7 ppg, 23 rpg), J. Loscutoff
(8.3 ppg, 7 rpg). 6th man: F. Ramsey 15.4 ppg, 6.8 rpg). Key reserves: S.
Jones (10.7 ppg), G. Conley.
1957 Celtics (44-28, 7-3, Red Auerbach, 105.5 ppg-100.2 ppg) Starters: B.
Cousy (20.6 ppg, 7.5 apg), B. Shar...

There were plenty of highlights in Waltham from Boston Celtic's media day on Monday, but the most burning question had to be when Rajon Rondo would return to the court. Rondo has been out since January with an ACL tear, an injury that has proven tough to work back from in any sport. In the case of Derrick Rose, a torn ACL took away his 2012 post season as well as his 2012-13...
Boston Celtic's head coach Brad Stevens had a lot to take away from day one of training camp yesterday in Newport, RI. Point guard Phil Pressey surprised enough people in summer league to earn himself a contract and a spot on this season's roster. It seems like Pressey hasn't lost a step since Orlando heading into Newport. With Rajon Rondo missing from drills, Stevens...
Kris Humphries donned a Celtics uniform for the first time Monday at the team’s media day, sporting his usual No. 43 on the jersey.
For most Celtics fans, 43 belongs to beloved ex-Celtic Kendrick Perkins. Perk was known for his mean grimace, hard picks and fighting spirit. Some people even called him “the big, mean, green machine.” Humphries isn’t exactly on the same level...
Jordan Crawford has become one of those players that you just don't care about,it's not personal,or maybe it is, but his hot and cold style is a turn off for most of us. With Rondo sidelined, the guard positions are pretty much up for grabs, for the likes of Lee, Brooks, and Crawford.

However, one thing has become...

2013-14 season is upon us.
Rondo went through a non-contact, morning walkthrough on day one of camp. Rondo is at a disadvantage of sorts. He won't be able to start this era off with a bang. He'll have to develop his new role as sole team leader on the sideline leading by his voice, and with whatever else he can do that doesn't compromise his rehab. He hasn't been given the title as team captain...
WALTHAM, Mass. — Rajon Rondo sought out advice from all over the sports landscape both before and after his ACL surgery in February. Patriots receiver Wes Welker and former teammates Kendrick Perkins and Tony Allen all got calls from the Celtics point guard, who came away with a couple of impressions. One, there is no way to tell, from one case to the next, how an individual will...
It’s no secret that the Boston Celtics have a plethora of shooting guards on their roster. As training camp approaches Brad Stevens is probably hoping that one or two step up and make their mark so he has some easier decisions to make once the season begins.
Instead of worrying about who might step up, it seems more entertaining (its Friday), to look at the group as a whole and...
We saw on Media Day just how much conditioning Rajon Rondo has been doing during his recovery from a torn ACL. What we didn’t see that day, was the work Rondo has been putting into his jump shot.
Now that training camp is underway, non-contact drills have been keeping RR involved. Working with new assistant coach Ron Adams, Rondo opted to miss the team bus on Tuesday, working on...
Chris Paul might be the best point guard in the NBA, but to Doc Rivers he’s simply a talented guy without a ring.
Fresh off of coaching Rajon Rondo, Rivers is not foreign to dealing with different personalities and that experience dealing with Rondo, along with a winning pedigree allowed Rivers to lay the law down to Paul during their first meeting.
According to Marc Spears of...
Rondo was the story for the most part after day 2 of training camp at Salve Regina. Players talked about his leadership from the sidelines. And more than one photo was posted of Rondo staying after all the other players had loaded the bus for the hotel, working on his shot with assistant coach Ron Adams. He is still a long way from being cleared for contact but he's doing...

High flying slam dunks, gorgeous crossovers, a beautifully executed give and go - basketball is an art form. So, with that in mind, The Hoops Manifesto is putting an artistic twist on your run of the mill NBA team previews: our previews for all 30 NBA teams will take the form of a haiku. Next up: Boston Celtics.
Earlier today, we got a look at what could possibly be Rajon Rondo’s first shoe with Anta. His teammates have also been wearing some fresh kicks over the first couple of days at training camp. Avery Bradley was seen in a pair of Rajon’s Hyperposites & Jordan Crawford broke out a pair of KD V’s. Check out some pics from the first two days of camp in the gallery below. Pics...
Celtics guard Rajon Rondo was asked how he felt when Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett were traded.
Rajon Rondo on how he felt after Garnett and Pierce were traded: "It wasn’t difficult at all, I didn't feel anything…" Ouch.

Well, there you have it. Rondo gave not one…well you know the rest is.
