Recent Olympic gold medal winner and NBA all-star, Andre Iguodala, is already talking extension with his new team. The recently traded swingman is under contract with the Denver Nuggets for the 2012-13 NBA season and holds a player option for the 2013-14 season, but is already talking like he’d like to set-up shop in Denver for the long haul.

Andre Iguodala was a crucial piece of the deal that ultimately sent Dwight Howard to the Los Angeles Lakers. The deal, for those of you who forgot, sent Howard to the Lakers, Andrew Bynum to the Philadelphia 76ers, Andre Iguodala to the Denver Nuggets, and a slew of young players and future No. 1 draft picks to the Orlando Magic.

This deal finally put Iguodala trade rumors to rest. Iguodala has been rumored in every possible off-season trade scenario over the span of the last three years, and I’m sure he’s thrilled to finally find some closure from the Philadelphia 76ers organization. Not to say that Iguodala and the Sixers don’t have fond memories of one another, but rumors like this every Summer must take it’s toll and I’m sure this trade lifts incredible weight from the all-star’s shoulders.

“We weren’t coming into this thinking this will be a one-year deal,” Iguodala said. “… “This is definitely a place that I can see myself for more than just a year or two.”

The defensive-minded, high-flyer, will turn 29 in January and still has what could be his best years ahead of him. Iguodala is one of the league’s more higher I.Q. players and not only displays great defensive skills, but also has the ability to run the point-forward for important stretches of games. This will take pressure off from fourth-year point guard, Ty Lawson, who showed great abilities last season without the ball in his hand.

The Nuggets also brought back veteran point guard, Andre Miller, whom Iguodala is familiar with from their days as teammates in Philly. I look for Iguodala to help this young Nuggets teams turn the corner with the help of his experience and leadership.

This was a great move for Andre and the Nuggets.
