Boston Celtics: Derrick White Sounds Off on Scorching-Hot Shooting Night in Game 1 Blowout Vs. Cavaliers
Winslow Townson-USA TODAY Sports

The Boston Celtics took care of business on Tuesday night as they took down the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals, 120-95.

Derrick White, who has been rolling of late, kept his foot on the gas in this one as he torched the Cavs in what turned out to be another red-hot shooting night for the 6-foot-4 combo guard.

The Jayson Tatums and the Jaylen Browns of the world will always be heralded as the heroes for the Celtics, but it’s performances like these from White that’s going to take this team over the edge.

Boston Celtics News: Derrick White Reacts to Big Night

After averaging  4.2 triples per game on a dizzying 47.7-percent clip in Boston’s first-round series win against the Miami Heat, White kept it going on Tuesday night. He knocked down another seven triples against the Cavs, en route to an impressive 25-point performance.

After the game, White was quick to play down his heroic effort, noting that what matters the most is that the Celtics came away with the W:

“It feels good. I think the most important thing is to win,” White said, via ESPN. “I’ve said before, it doesn’t matter if I score zero or score however many I scored today. When we win, I’m doing enough.”

Jaylen Brown Heaps Praise on Derrick White

Jaylen Brown was on a heater in this one as well, going off for a team-high 32 points on 12-of-18 from the floor. The All-Star forward had nothing but good things to say about White after watching his teammate help lead the squad to another crucial win:

“Derrick White has grown,” Brown said. “He’s a new version that we haven’t seen before. He’s put the work in, his body has developed a little bit, he’s got some more playoff experience. And he’s being aggressive, and we urge him to do that more and more down the line.”

You can count on Brown and Tatum to do their thing every single game, but if White keeps up this level of play, the Celtics are going to be pretty unstoppable out there.
