The Boston Celtics came into this week on a poor note. They had lost four consecutive games. Coming into this week, Boston was trying to turn it around. The Celtics would play 4 games, so let’s take an inside look at all of them.
On Monday, March 31st, the Celtics would travel to Chicago to face the Bulls for a second game in a row. The game would go back-and-forth throughout until the 4th when the Celtics would breakdown offensively and only score 10 in the quarter. The Bulls would pull away and win 94-80. Mike Dunleavy led all scorers with 22 which included a 50% 3-point field goal percentage, going three for six. Jerryd Bayless and Brandon Bass would both add in 18 points in the loss. Rajon Rondo did not play.
On Wednesday, April 2nd, the Wizards would welcome the Celtics into Washington. The game would be close until the third quarter in which Washington would double up the Celtics 32-16 and then end up winning 118-92. The Wizards would clinch a playoff spot with this win. All Wizards starters would score in the double digits led by center Marcin Gortat who had 22 points and 8 rebounds. Jared Sullinger led all scorers with 25 points.
On Friday, April 4th, the Celtics would travel back home to host the struggling Philadelphia 76ers. The game would be close come halftime, but the Sixers would pull away in the second half and defeat Boston 111-102. The center for Philadelphia, Henry Sims, would record career highs in points and rebounds with 24 and 9. He also made 14 of his 18 free throw attempts. Michael Carter-Williams would also tally in 24 points in the win. Rajon Rondo finally recorded his first triple-double with 11 points, 16 assists, and 11 rebounds.
On Saturday, April 5th, the Detroit Pistons would welcome the Celtics into the Palace. In this one, Boston would surmount a 19-point lead in the third quarter, but the Pistons would rally back and end up beating the Celtics in a close one, 115-111. Pistons center Andre Drummond would once again look impressive against Boston with 19 points and 20 boards. Greg Monroe would tally in 21 points and 7 rebounds. Rodney Stuckey led all scorers with 26 off the bench. Three Celtics starters would score 20-plus in the loss. Jerryd Bayless led Boston with 25 points, followed by Jeff Green with 23 and Jared Sullinger with 22 points and 10 boards.
The Boston Celtics now sit at a record of 23-54 and are currently riding an eight-game losing streak which puts them in sole position of the 4th worst team in the NBA. Boston looks to get off the snide in Atlanta on Wednesday with five games remaining.
