I was born in Massachusetts towards the end of the Larry Bird era. Never saw him play live. Only stepped inside of the old Boston Garden one time and it was to see Disney on Ice. There wasn't much of a reason for me to be a Boston Celtics fan. My dad was, so I was. The team didn't give me much of reason.
The deterioration of Bird, Kevin McHale and Robert Parrish, the untimely deaths of Len Bias and Reggie Lewis and some woeful drafting and management led to two decades of rooting for the losers for me. I remember my childhood, watching the other kids gush over Michael Jordan and Shaquille O'Neal while I was busy forcing myself to look up to names like Dino Radja, Xavier McDaniel, Pervis Ellison and Eric Williams. Finding excitement watching a decaying Dominique Wilkins wear green trying to rekindle his Hawks success.
I remember transitioning into adulthood by painting the "C" in "RICKY" on my chest to support Ricky Davis in his ...

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big storyline. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.
“First, he has a lot of respect for Doc (Rivers, the C’s coach),” the source said. “I’m not sure there is someone else he could play for at this point. He’s very loyal. But he’s also very proud. As...
Just one day after the Celtics were ousted from the NBA Playoffs, everyone around the league is speculating where The Big Three will go. Ray Allen to Miami? Paul Pierce traded? KG leaving?
Fans of the Boston Celtics better be prepared to hear stories like this for the next few months.
While we await word of whether or not Kevin Garnett will return for his 18th season, we are already hearing that a team not named the Boston Celtics is interested in his services should he decide to lace up his ANTA kicks next year. The interested team is the San Antonio Spurs...
Are the Spurs looking to pair Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde on the court at the same time next season?
If a report by Buck Harvey of The San Antonio Express-News has any legs to it, they just might.
Harvey reports that a source in the Spurs organization told him this weekend that the team will look at all options this summer, including unrestricted free agent Kevin Garnett.
Ray Allen will have ankle surgery early Wednesday morning to remove bone spurs from his ankle, according to Mark Murphy of the Boston Herald.Ray Allen vowed to take care of his problematic right ankle quickly, and the Celtics guard was as good as his word.Allen will have surgery to remove bone spurs from the ankle at 6 a.m. on Wednesday at New England Baptist Hospital, according...
Allen will have surgery to remove bone spurs from the ankle at 6 a.m. on Wednesday at New England Baptist Hospital, according to a source.
The problem, which first surfaced during in Los Angeles during the C’s’ eight-game road trip in mid-March, eventually forced Allen to miss 15 regular-season games as well as the first two games of the Celtics’ first-round...
A lot of things could happen in free agency this offseason. Kevin Garnett joining, or even replacing, Tim Duncan with the San Antonio Spurs does not seem likely to be one of them. Because offhand remarks often set off the most absurd speculation, the report that a person within the San Antonio Spurs had "tossed out" Garnett as a free agent possibility drew a lot of attention...
One third of the Boston Celtics’ “big three” will go under the knife on Wednesday evening. Ray Allen will undergo surgery to remove bone spurs from his right ankle.
An injury that caused Allen to miss 15 regular season games and two playoff games against the Atlanta Hawks in the first round of the eastern conference playoffs.
These nagging ankle issues were also the cause...
The Boston Celtics forced the Miami Heat to the brink of elimination. Kevin Garnett channelled his inner "Big Ticket" in the process. Ray Allen and Paul Pierce looked more their age. Through 20 postseason games, KG posted playoff averages of 19.2 points and 10.3 rebounds per night. Allen and Pierce did not help things as much as Celtics Nation hoped they would.
During an appearance this morning on WEEI, Sports Illustrated’s Chris Mannix hinted at a riff between Rajon Rondo and Ray Allen:
“There is going to be a ton of interest in Ray Allen in the offseason,” Mannix said. “He’s going to be able to pick and choose where he wants to play.”
Allen conceivably could return to Boston, but Mannix said that decision might be affected...
After the Miami Heat beat the Boston Celtics in last night's Eastern Conference Finals game seven to move onto the 2012 NBA Finals, Celtics star Kevin Garnett and Rajon Rondo decided to hit the showers and skip the post game pleasantries.
Watch as both Rondo and Garnett leave the court without shaking hands with any member of the Miami Heat:
Kevin Garnett has been fined $25,000 for failing to make himself available to the media following Boston's 101-88 loss in Game 7.
It wasn’t that long ago when Danny Ainge brought in Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen to join Paul Pierce, leading the Celtics to their first NBA Championship in 22 years. That season was as fun as they come, and the rest of the four years wasn’t four behind. That trio might have played its last game together, so take a look at this video and remember that first championship run.
Ric Bucher was on Dennis and Callahan this morning. Bucher called himself a "big fan" of Jeff Green. It's uncertain whether Jeff Green will be willing to sign with the Celtics to come off the bench. In order to free up a starting spot for Green, Bucher floated the idea of a Paul Pierce for Pau Gasol trade, which he claims several GM's have said they'd...
They are the two premier big men of this era - San Antonio Spurs' Tim Duncan and Boston Celtics' Kevin Garnett. Both have dominated the paint offensively and defensively, won NBA titles and garnered many accolades along the way. But now that the season is over and their NBA careers are coming to an end soon, could TD and KG be forming the next "Twin Towers" in San...
