In news that will only add to the legend of the Trail Blazers injury curse former all-star Brandon Roy, who retired for medical reasons just last season, announced via Will Conroy’s Twitter account that he is planning to return to the NBA next season. In a string of tweets Roy expressed his intent to play again: Lord willing, I will play again soon. Yes, I’m preparing for a comeback. I’m training daily. I’m preparing for a return next year. I appreciate the love. Hopefully I’ll be back on the floor soon. Health is good. Because the Blazers used the amnesty provision of the NBA’s latest collective bargaining agreement to move Roy’s salary off the books (a key reason they have roughly $20 million to spend this off-season) Roy would not be eligible to rejoin the Blazers until at least the 2014 season. Roy expressed love for Portland but not a willingness to keep his career on hold. I’m looking to return sooner. Thanks for your support. I’m fortunate to have played for s...

Brandon Roy Faces Long-Term Considerations Beyond Playing Health as He Seeks to Return to NBA

Forgive me if my initial reaction to the news that Brandon Roy may return to the court was not, "Hey, great news," but "why?" Any time an athlete is able to overcome a devastating injury to get back to playing the game he loves, it makes for a wonderful story. When Roy was finally struck down by increasingly degenerative knee issues prior to last season, it marked...

Brandon Roy eyes NBA comeback

Brandon Roy was forced to retire due to degenerative knees.  The Portland Trailblazers would later use the amnesty clause on him to take his salary off of their books. Although Brandon Roy does not have a Twitter account, he used a college teammate’s account to answer some questions that fans had.  Using Will Conroy’s Twitter account, who was his college teammate while...

Jamal Crawford Confirms Opt Out Plan

Jamal Crawford said on Thursday that he will opt out of his 12-13 contract with the Blazers.

Williams, Crawford join market for shooters

Free agency opens up at midnight on July 1. It appears that it is going to be filled with a lot of two types of players; restricted free agents who might actually be able to join a new team and shooters. There are going to be lots of shooters. As CBS Sports' Matt Moore writes, Blazers guard Jamal Crawford and 76ers guard Lou Williams are both set to join the free agent class...

Roy wants back in, Spurs a good fit?

Brandon Roy retired from the NBA last December because his knees wore down.  Last spring during the first round of the playoffs, Roy submitted one of the most amazing performances of any postseason when he scored 24 points, 18 in the 4th quarter, to bring the Blazers back from an 18 deficit.  Downside was Roy couldn't duplicate that performance and more often than not could...
