The Milwaukee Bucks defeated the Washington Wizards Friday night, 101 to 91. The Bucks moved to 3-1, and the Wizards fell to 0-4. The Wizards started the game with a 12-0 run. The Bucks spent the first two minutes missing shots, turning the ball over, and allowing breakout layups. It was spectacularly bad. Then they regrouped, shot well from the three point line, and got themselves back into what was ultimately a back and forth game for the first three quarters. Then the Bucks second unit built a lead early in the 4th with a 13-0 run and they pretty much coasted to victory. Ellis lead the Bucks in scoring with 22. Beal had 22 for the Wizards. Beal was ejected with less than a minute remaining, in a game that had been decided, for a flagrant foul against Ellis. It was a hard foul, but not extreme. As Beal was helping Ellis up, Jennings ran over and shoved Beal. Jennings was also ejected. Jennings probably overreacted, but I suppose that is better than the opposite (not giving a ****). Bucks have a rematch with the Celtics up next, Saturday night at the BMOBC. Here are some random thoughts on the game: 1) Yeah, we are only three games in, but Dunleavy came into it shooting 80% from 3 pt range. You generally only see that kind of accuracy when someone is on fire in NBA JAM. 2) John Henson and Doran Lamb so no action. 3) Just having beastly Sam Dalembert in the paint, even if he is not blocking shots, is a game changer. 4) Beno was back, and provided his typical steady, stabilizing point guard play. 5) Wizards rookie Bradley Beal (Fl) is the real deal. When John Wall gets back, that’s gonna be a nice tandem. Beal v. Ellis was a pretty intense matchup all night. 6) I saw Sammy Cassel’s big alien head on the Wizards bench. I assume he specializes in coaching guys up on the midrange jumper, and mid range pump fake to draw the foul – his specialty. 7) Wizards and Bucks have the top scoring benches in the league. The difference is that the Bucks second unit can play suffocating D. 8 – Jennings is leading the league in steals, averaging 4 per game. In other news around the league: 1) The MN Timberwolves are a somewhat surprising 4-1 (they won tonight in spectacular fashion). This is without Rubio and Love. This is a deep team. Brandon Roy and Kirilenko were the big name pickups for the Wolves in the offseason. Both have been solid (though Roy is still a big ? at this point and his minutes have been limited due to his knees). But the surprise has been Russian pick up Alexy Shved. He is 6 ft 6, has a quick first step, great vision, the ability to finish at the rim, and a killer instinct. By midseason, when Rubio is back, the Rubio/Shved combo is going to be the talk of the league. Buddinger has been a solid pick up as well. 2) Mike Brown was fired after the Lakers 1-5 start. I get it – they are 1-5, didn’t excel last year, and he always kind of seemed like an odd hire. But at the same time, it is a completely new team, lots of new personalities to mesh – maybe seems a little quick. 3) Jerry Stackhouse is still in the league – he plays for the Nets. Remember when he was the next Jordan? I’m old. 4) No one has been fined yet for excessive flopping. Barea and some guy named Donald Sloan have been warned. Next offense will cost them $5k. Don’t think they are enforcing this very strictly – I’ve seen quite a few flops, that have not resulted in warnings. Here’s the Wizard girls:
