Tristan Thompson's three-point play with 24.4 seconds remaining gave the Cleveland Cavaliers their first two-game winning streak of the season as the Cavaliers beat the Washington Wizards 87-84 on Wednesday night.
Kyrie Irving, who had 26 points to lead Cleveland, made one of two free throws with 9.5 seconds left after Jordan Crawford and Garrett Temple missed jumpers for the Wizards. Crawford made two free throws with 8.5 seconds left to cut the lead to 86-84. Irving hit one of two, and Crawford missed a 3-pointer as time ran out.
Irving had 20 of his 26 points in the first half for the Cavaliers, who improved to 7-23. Two of their wins are against Washington, losers of eight straight.
Thompson had a season-high 15 points and 12 rebounds.
Crawford and Emeka Okafor led the Wizards with 17 points and Nene had 16.
Washington took a 79-73 lead with 6:20 to play, but Cleveland scored nine straight points to take an 82-79 lead with 3:37 left.
The Wizards were held scoreless for 4 1-2 minutes until Okafor hit a hook shot with 1:50 to play to cut the Cavaliers' lead to 82-81. Irving missed two free throws with 1:01 to play, and Okafor hit one of two with 46.2 seconds to play for an 82-all tie.
The Wizards broke on top 22-10 with 4:51 to play in the first quarter, thanks to Nene's 10 points. Cleveland's Irving had 12 of his 20 first-half points in the second quarter to help the Cavaliers grab a 45-43 halftime lead.
Washington started Shelvin Mack at the point. It was Mack's first NBA start. The second-year guard had been cut by the Wizards at the end of training camp, and re-signed on Tuesday after a strong stint in the D-League.
Mack was starting because Crawford was late to Wednesday's shootaround according to a team source. Before the game, Washington coach Randy Wittman said that Crawford was benched for a violation of team rules.
The Wizards scored 12 straight points to take a 62-53 lead with just over 7 minutes left in the third quarter with Mack hitting consecutive 3-pointers.
Irving missed all five of his field goal attempts in the third quarter, but hit two free throws to tie the score at 68-all to end the period.
NOTES: Shaun Livingston, who was waived after Saturday's game by the Wizards, was on the Cavaliers' bench after his Tuesday signing. Cleveland C Anderson Varejao missed his fourth game with a bruised right knee. Scott said he would be evaluated on Thursday. ... Temple, who signed on Tuesday, had two points.

Kyrie Irving’s game on the floor is developing nicely, but his pimpology off of it needs some work. The reigning NBA Rookie of the Year had to do some damage control on Twitter after a picture of him with his arms around two girls appeared online for a brief period early Christmas morning. Our friend Stiletto Jill snagged it while it was up, and she says it was posted to his Instagram...

As if getting the cover of the latest ESPN The Magazine was not enough, the four-letter network out of Bristol, Connecticut continues to rain praise on Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Kyrie Irving.
Within an Insider feature penned by Amin Elhassan, the NBA front office personnel director, we find the opinon that the Cavaliers’ star will be the preeminent point guard in all of...
Cleveland's Kyrie Irving is a super fast guard on the court and apparently is quite fast on his spin-control for a photo of him with a couple of women draped all over him (h/t Larry Brown Sports). Normally, who can't blame for a young, professional basketball player for enjoying his bachelor days and just living it up. I know I would if i was banking like Irving and...

Tristan Thompson has a solid chance to obtain a fifth- and sixth-straight double-double as the Cavaliers have ruled Anderson Varejao out for the remainder of the weekend with a bruised knee.
The Cavaliers will host the Atlanta Hawks on Friday night before traveling to Brooklyn to face the new-look Nets on Saturday. They have won two-straight games for the first time this season and...
Check out Cleveland Cavaliers Kyrie Irving as he drives the floor and throws up a nasty shot to beat the halftime buzzer against the Atlanta Hawks.
Last week, I brought you a well-timed snapshot of Tristan Thompson’s offense at the beginning of four straight double-doubles for the second-year power forward. This week, we’ll take a look at just how the wine and gold strung a pair of wins together (against the Bucks and Wizards, both on the road) for the first time since March last season when they rattled off three against...
The mistakes made in Wednesday night’s Cavaliers game are often the kind that force head coach Byron Scott to take to the podium with a heavy sigh and a similar message as the game before. Missed free throws, silly fouls and lackadaisical defense were only the beginning. But it would be this Cavaliers team, typically left holding the bag when the final buzzer blows, who would have...
WASHINGTON -- Someone had to win the matchup between the two losingest teams in the NBA's Eastern Conference. The combined performance lived up to the lowered expectations, leaving even the triumphant coach displeased, though smiling. For these teams, any win is ultimately a good one. Kyrie Irving scored 20 of his 26 points in the first half and Tristan Thompson scored the...

In more than any other sport, NBA teams are able to draft true franchise changers. Winning the NBA draft lottery is so important, as young players continue to have a huge impact on the game. Also, if the US Olympic committee does decide that Team USA has to be under a certain age, this would certainly be a starting lineup to consider. This article will look at players under the age...
