For his entire life Tristan Thompson has shot the basketball left-handed. He golfs left-handed too. He eats with his left hand as well. Other things he’s done with his right hand. He throws a football with his right hand. Throws a baseball with his right. Now he’s trying basketball with his right too. The Toronto native has been experimenting with right-handed shooting since last season and officially made the switch Thursday in Team Canada’s victory over Jamaica. SportsNet’s Michael Grange wrote that Thompson was 6-for-11 for 16 points in his right-handed debut – and the notoriously off-the-mark free-throw shooter even hit all four of his free-throw attempts. Last season Thompson shot .488 from the field and connected on 61 percent of his free throws. Thompson has the blessing of the Cavaliers who were the first to begin working with him on the switch last season. Then-coach Byron Scott often joked that Thompson was more accurate shooting right-handed free throws than left but Thompson remained steadfast that he would continue to shoot left-handed. When asked if he was left- or right-handed in January Thompson remained somewhat elusive. “I'm both” he said. “I'm both but all the good bigs are able to use both hands. I'm predominantly left but I’m just able to use (my) right when I need to.”
