Pro Sports Daily:
Boston Celtics forward Paul Pierce could be in jeopardy of missing the season opener against the New York Knicks on Christmas Day because of a heel injury.
Pierce suffered the bruised heel in the Celtics' first practice and he been watching on the sidelines since. He will not play in Wednesday's preseason finale against the Toronto Raptors.
Coach Doc Rivers doesn't think the injury will have a lasting effect but believes Pierce will be limited in the early portion of the schedule. Boston plays three games in four nights to open the lockout-shortened campaign.
Pierce averaged 18.9 points and 5.4 rebounds last season.

Paul Pierce's sore right heel has limited his participation in training camp and will once again keep him out of the lineup when the Celtics take on the Raptors on Wednesday. With Paul Pierce still out due to his Achilles injury The Celtics rolled with Sasha Pavlovic in the starting lineup. If Paul is going to miss the season opener against New York I'd expect to see the same move. Judging from everything Doc has said Marquis is too valuable off the bench to screw up any chemistry that has actually formed, as little as that might be.
