Greg Oden recently made news with plans to play at some point in the somewhat near future, whether it is this season or next. For a guy who hasn’t been able to stay on the floor his entire career, this certainly needs to be taken with a grain of salt.
Initially, the Miami Heat were the first to be rumored to have interest in Oden. Now it appears that the Boston Celtics are monitoring the former number one overall pick. Via Dime Mag:
Boston’s president of basketball operations Danny Ainge has confirmed the Celtics are “monitoring” the former No. 1 overall pick.
Ainge noted on Boston sports radio WEEI:
“Yeah, so we’re monitoring Greg, like all the NBA teams are, but we have not attempted to sign him. But we are monitoring him and having (conversations) with his people just to see where he’s at.”
“I don’t think (he’d be ready to play this year). I don’t know any of that for sure, but I would suspect that anybody that would sign him would have their eyes looking more towards his contribution in the future than now.”
It’s tough to take too much out of this. I’m sure plenty of teams are “monitoring” him, as there is always a huge need for quality seven footers.
Not to mention, Danny Ainge is always open to everything. Just ask Kendrick Perkins.
