The Boston Celtics lost the first game of the NBA's preseason Friday, 97-91 to Turkish team Fenerbahce Ulker. First-round draft pick Jared Sullinger and Jeff Green scored 16 points each, but the Celtics paid the price for a weak second quarter, getting outscored 29-18. Rajon Rondo had 13 points and nine assists, while Jason Terry, one of a handful of new players on the roster, scored 12. However, 25 turnovers showed there's work to be done before the Celtics' next exhibition game Sunday in Milan, against Emporio Armani. The team returns to Boston on Monday and resumes practice on Oct. 11 before playing its first U.S. preseason game against the Knicks in Hartford, Conn., two days later.

Your Morning Dump… Where Jared Sullinger is never in a hurry

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big storyline. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. “That’s a great example, when you go into games, from our standpoint, we want to look at different guys, and we got a great look at him,” head coach Doc Rivers said of Sullinger afterward. “He was terrific...

Video: Rajon Rondo throws a touchdown pass to Jeff Green

We read previously that Rajon Rondo organized practices for the Celtics in LA and the guys played some football. Looks like some of that is carrying over to Turkey now. Check out the video above of Rondo throwing a touchdown pass to Jeff Green. Hopefully we will see some crazy court-long alley oops from Rondo to Green this season. Thanks to ThunWest from the shoutbox for sharing the video

Jeff Green Shows Ability to Lead Second Unit and Other Impressions from Celtics' Loss in Istanbul

These Turkish teams are not to be taken lightly. Despite a warning from Dionte Christmas, an alumnus of the Turkish Basketball League, that Fenerbahce Ulker would be no pushover, the Celtics never seemed able to get in rhythm on Friday. Boston's first exhibition foe of the 2012-13 season controlled the pace of the game, got to the free throw line more effectively and protected...

A Confident Rondo

Rajon Rondo told me he was more confident in his 3-point shot and had been working hard on it. Form on 3 he just hit looked best it ever had — Marc J. Spears (@SpearsNBAYahoo) October 5, 2012 How many times over the last few years have we said that if Rondo just had a jumper he would be scary. Well, I think we may just have a scary Rondo on our hands this season. I've said...

The Boston Celtics is Rajon Rondo’s Team

Boston Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo hopes to lead the 2012-’13 team to the organization’s 18th championship. One of the central questions as the Boston Celtics kick off their 2012-’13 season is whether point guard Rajon Rondo can be the strong leader the organization expects him to become. Rondo held workouts last month in California with most of the members of the team...

Celtics Odds and Ends from Today

In the above video we find out that there were a couple of fiery exchanges at the end of a very good practice today. That tells me that they are really competing in practice and that it will be a relief when they finally get a chance to play against another team. We also learn that Jeff Green is playing very well and gives the team a lot of versatility. The point guard for the...

With the Big 3 era gone, Boston turns to a new leader

The Boston Celtics are much like the original Mars Rover. Experimental in nature, the Spirit was only supposed to last a short time. Instead, it long outlasted its expected shelf life, and it spawned a new generation of rovers that ushered in a new era of space exploration. The new Big-3 era was really only supposed to last three years. The Celtics were supposed to...
