Found December 19, 2012 on Celtics Town:
In an effort to give me an aneurysm, Doc Rivers decided to shuffle his starting lineup tonight to include the JET and Jason Collins. There was some speculation that Collins was garnering the start to try and slow down Anderson Varejao, but Varejao was held out of tonight’s game at the last minute so I proceeded to have a full-blown conniption at that point. But the Celtics beat a now 5-22 team missing their second best player (an all-star caliber big man) so it’s time to get excited! Jason Collins is the answer! Let’s get to the bullet points:So in all seriousness, why Jason Collins? Well Collins is a good screen setter, capable defender, and a competent rebounder (which on this team makes him a spectacular rebounder). He also allows KG to log some minutes at the four, a SOMETHING no other big provides. However, if you’re starting Jason Collins you can forget about him contributing on the offensive end, hence Terry getting the start as well to balance out the lineup. Now the Celtics...

Your Morning Dump… Where Jason Collins had an amazing impact last night

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big storyline. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. “Jason Collins, for getting one point and two rebounds, had an amazing impact on the game for us,” said Celtics coach Doc Rivers. His ability to defend the post and draw charges not only provided a much-needed...

Doc Rivers: “Every night there are one or two guys who don’t do their jobs”

The Celtics don’t quite have it right yet, and Doc Rivers is will be the first person to tell you that (via WEEI)“I understand the changes we made. We made a lot of them,” said Rivers, whose team is coming off a 103-91 win over Cleveland Wednesday night. “One of our key guys has not played yet, but Avery [Bradley] is not Bill Russell. With that, plus with all the different...

Jason Collins Emerges As Celtics' Starting Center

Jason Collins earned praise from Doc Rivers and Kevin Garnett after his first start.

Doc Rivers Says Celtics Are Not A Veteran Team

With a slew of veterans with varying levels of experience, the Boston Celtics have the appearance of a veteran team. But as Celtics coach Doc Rivers points out, there’s more to having a veteran team than simply throwing together a bunch of guys who have been around the NBA block a few times. “Where I think people get mixed up, there’s a difference between a veteran team and...

Doc Rivers Admits Celtics Are ‘Not a Good Team Right Now’ After Another Loss

The Celtics lost again on Tuesday night, something that has become quite the trend through the first quarter of the NBA season. The C’s, who were one game from the NBA Finals, just a few months ago, now find themselves sitting at .500 with a 12-12 record. They sit in third place in the Atlantic Division (six games behind the first-place Knicks) and are in eighth place in the Eastern...

Doc Rivers Says Celtics Are ‘Not A Good Team Right Now’

But the Celtics are one of the Eastern Conference teams most predicted would finish ahead of the Bulls this season. And they won the first game between the teams last month. But the Bulls went to 14-10 with the victory and the sagging Celtics back to .500. “I think we have the right group,” said Rivers. “We’re going to keep searching. But this (Celtics) team is not a good...

Cavs center Varejao sidelined with bruised knee

Cleveland Cavaliers center Anderson Varejao missed Wednesday night's game against the Boston Celtics because of a bruised right knee. Varejao, the NBA's leading rebounder at 14.4 per game, was injured Tuesday night against Toronto when he landed awkwardly on his right leg and crumpled to the floor in pain after being fouled late in the first quarter. He limped to the locker...

Cavs' Varejao to miss 2 more games

Cavaliers center Anderson Varejao will miss at least two more games with a bruised right knee. Varejao has missed four games since hurting his knee on Dec. 18 against Toronto. The Cavs had hoped extra rest would get the NBA's leading rebounder back on the floor, but he's not ready to play. Varejao will sit out Friday's home game against Atlanta and will not travel with...

The Best of Tommy

The Celtics were at home last night and that means that Tommy was tweeting live throughout the game again. He was definitely on his game last night and at times was even more entertaining than the game. I sure do miss him when the C's are on national TV and I'm stuck with the other guys. Tommy should be declared a National Treasure. Here's the best of Tommy from last...

Celtics interested in Varejao… but….

The Celtics rebounding is bad.  Really bad.  So bad that Dennis Rodman could show up tomorrow in his wedding dress and be the best rebounder on the team. The Cavaliers just so happen to have the best rebounder in the league on their roster in Anderson Varejao, and he’s available for the right price. Enter the Celtics…. but don’t get too excited. The Celtics, ranked 29th in...

While We’re Waiting…Still talking trade scenarios

While We’re Waiting serves as the early morning gathering of WFNY-esque information for your viewing pleasure. Have something you think we should see? Send it to our tips email at tips@waitingfornextyear.com. “The Cavs have about $10 million in cap room, making them a prime candidate to absorb salary as either a main player in a two-team trade or a facilitator in a larger deal...

Drew Gooden says Anderson Varejao has always been this skilled

On July 23, 2004, the Cleveland Cavaliers acquired Drew Gooden and Anderson Varjeao in a trade with the Orlando Magic for Tony Battie and two second round draft picks. For the next three seasons, Gooden and Varejao were teammates in Cleveland. Not only did they share time at the power forward position specifically, they also practiced against each other on a daily basis. ...

Cleveland Cavaliers: Anderson Varejao, the Prize of the Deadline?

Contenders be on notice, a fantastic player could be had at the trade deadline. Anderson Varejao has been one of the top big men in the Eastern Conference this season. Leading the league in rebounds (14.4 a game), while averaging a career high in scoring (14.1 a game), Varejao is having a career year. Sadly for him, the Cavs are still rebuilding and will be nowhere near the playoffs...

Wilcox happy for team despite DNP; Green possibly not as much

Doc Rivers has changed his rotations this week. Two players impacted have been Chris Wilcox and Jeff Green. Wilcox registered a DNP last night as Doc gave Jason Collins the starting center role. Doc seems to have listened to me and has started using Green almost exclusively as the backup small forward the past two games. For one reason or another Green can not defend 4's and...

Box Score: Raptors 113, Cavaliers 99

The Cavaliers welcomed Dion Waiters back to the lineup in this one, but it would make little difference as Cleveland once again lost to Cavalier Kryptonite, the Toronto Raptors. This one was close through 3 quarters, but the Raptors pulled away in the 4th quarter to snap their 11 game road losing streak. The Cavaliers were lead by Kyrie Irving’s 23 points and Anderson Varejao chipped...
