Celtics won't win.

People have alot of predictions for this years Boston Celtics team. NBA finals seems to be what everybody says. I don't believe it. Talent is there. I guess when you take two superstars from two mediocre teams and place them with another superstar from a mediocre team, your bound to be successful. But, my title for this article is not based solely on this year. It's based on the five, six, seven years. The Celtics will make the playoffs. Maybe even the finals. But, they won't win in the finals. There has been better teams with three or even four superstars the caliber of this Celtics team and they have not won the championship(see 2003-2004 Lakers. Kobe, Shaq, Malone, Payton.). So, you add one monster player for a one or two year run and maybe having a shot at a title, for five and beyond years at a title. I mean, Al would have turned into a beast down low given two years. Gerald Green is a superstar waiting to happen. Ryan Gomes is another solid player. A Kobe Shaq tandem won titles with solid players around them. Not superstars. Kobe+Shaq+Role players beats Kobe+Shaq+Malone+Payton. Will Celtics fans be happy when they don't win a championship in the next three years and Al Jefferson and Gerald Green are both turning into franchise type players. I look at the Celtics from two different perspectives and the two plans they could have chosen: Celtics Plan A: (After Ray Allen trade, before Garnett trade) Having Ray Allen join Paul Peirce creates a nice duo already. A playoff duo given Ray stays healthy. Now, they still have tremendous young players along with nice solid starters and bench players. Remember. I'd take two stars along with nice young, potential players over three or four superstars. So, you have a nice team right now along with an obviously great future. Celtics Plan B: (After Ray trade, after Garnett trade) Celtics fans are going nuts. They have a title run type team. They get to the finals. But, they lose. I know I would be mad as a fan to see my team, youth wasted, superstar loaded, lose. End ending up as a finals team might not look bright as Rondo is too young to start at point. So, your goal at a title is done. And gaining youth? Nope. That 29th pick will get you a decent player at best, maybe a bust. I wouldn't bank on it being a steal, especially with the Celtics bad luck. The Celtics year is not successful without a title. Not a title run. A title.
